I checked the website and there is no date or mention of a West event, only the East event..............Anybody know if Bobby is going to do it again this year ? It was such an incredible event even with the rain and high tide, I went but missed the deadline to bring this-> View attachment 3420609
Bottom line California*****s. It cost about 4 times the amount New Jersey does. The mayor and all the officials over there love the event and the money it brings into town. I don't think bobby and Mel broke even with the state parks shutting down Sunday races. Just plan and pack you bags for New Jersey. Iv heard maybe Washington or Oregon. Even Baja California Mexico is being looked into. I would love to see a east/west and north south race so there could be 4 times a year. Texas and find some sand in the Great Lakes somewhere.
Well*****! I really wanted to race Bruce on the beach this year but it doesn't look like it will happen. I hope they do something in Texas or the North West because Jersey is just too far for me.
I was really looking forward to TROG west , even cancelled my SEMA trip . Looks like Goodguys or something else west coast 2017 . Sent from the frozen North
It sure is a shame we have so many anti-car people and tree huggers here in Cal. where it all started What the hell is it going to hurt !!!!!!!!!!!!! It is a win - win deal for everybody DND
All day everyday we can drive on this beach. I live 10 mins away. I perch fish all year round and drive on it all the time. But when it comes to trog we have to not run coolant in the radiator and have drip pans under the cars in the pits. What the*****, what about the rest of the cars and trucks for the other 363 days of the year. California is run by a bunch of******es. Computer geeks and politics has jacked this state up. Why should it cost 300,000 dollars to run some old**** cars for two days on a beach. I thought this was my land your land from California to ............. Free country yea right. Why cant we be free to race some 80 year old cars on the beach??????
don't forget that tides and bad weather on the chosen weekend had a lot to do with many of the problems with TROG West.
Woooooo let not blame Mother Nature. She has been******** on us in California for the last few days wtf. It don't rain here and she is stoping me from playing in my roadster. So cal we don't need no stinking beach. If I'm getting called out like the 405 boys on street outlaws we gonna have to meet up in a dark alley somewhere and run these ol dirty********s. Maybe we start are own show... Real hotrods running the streets.
I don't know about those big rear tires so cal might slow ya down alittle. I got my ol 40s helmet ready. Just say when...
And I really dig the reverse chop. I think it's better than anything iv seen in years. I would love to trade my roadster body for an all original un chopped 3 w body. Grandpa loved his and I sun burn like a Viking. Since I'm part Viking....
Has anyone considered the same style 1/8 mile races at El Mirage? One of the most historic places in California and when SCTA is not running it is just a bunch of people in quads and buggies........just a thought
I Asked about that when we were at el mirage and they said it's not a beach. They didn't drag race at el mirage it was a timed event. I thought it would be better than the beach. Sand is my worst enemy. I live by the beach and I hate sand. The only thing the ocean is good for is fishing...
Or we do a nation wide hotrod call out. We set up a date and run em if you brung em. I like that plus it's only about 4 hours away for me. Keep it kinda like the rules of trog cars. But maybe include up to 40 fords with flatheads. I would like to see some 36 ford balls out with a nasty flatty run. Hell I'd race it in my roadster.
Lake Michigan has lots of sand, Wisconsin has Harley Davidson and the hippies all freeze to death during the winter so we keep them to a minimum. Just sayin.
So why couldn't we do a timed event for 1/8 mile, top speed in 1/8 mile to keep the speeds down and safe like they do on the beach...............I****ume historically most beach events ( Daytona) were timed-top speed in a short distance not a drag race.........It could have the look and feel of TROG but no beach rules and on the most historic ground for Hot rods in the US..........Just a thought for someone smarter and that has time to put together an event in the West. If not maybe like you said Bruce, just have something "informal" at El Mirage where are bunch of us pick a weekend to show up and races these cars to settle a grudge match???
BTW......El Mirage is only about 5 hours away for me and it would be nice to return my coupe to El Mirage where it ran in June of '41 as the # 36 car....
It was such a cool event, I really wish they'ed figure something out. Maybe they could move the event down the beach to the off-road park. Though how you gonna get 10,000 people down there to watch? I do like the El Mirage idea, that would be cool. But the area is not really developed enough to turn it into a tourist event, like the Pismo - San Luis Obispo area is. Where you gonna stick all those folks, in Victorville or Adelanto? Ha! Maybe resurrect the Signal Hill Hill Climb?
Yes, this event will be missed here in the West. If you have ideas about continuing this event then contact the organizers. If you want some other similar event to happen then step up and get involved making it happen Sent from my SM-G930V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Finally, got my March 2017 issue of Hot Rod - has multi page article on TROG West Sent from my SM-G930V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
This is so dam bad as it was a great event even with the weather as it was. (to me it added something) Sure would like to see it happen in 2017...
This was "THE BEST HOT ROD & KUSTOM EVENT EVER!!!!" I worked it as did so many others. We brought this event out to a Beach where I was told "It Would Never Happen". It almost didn't as that off coast storm with its powerful surge tore that event up several times right up to the moment vendors, cars and enthusiasts were led down to the shore. Social Media being what it is can make or break an event of this magnitude. Some people were commenting and they weren't even there..... To make a T-W happen again would take many people to write to state and local governments, get the chamber of commerce and let them hear how much the people liked the event. Perhaps then they may become an active participant/partner in making HISTORY again!!! Some of you on here own your own businesses or work for some type of vintage automotive entity, Perhaps either by donating you time or some type of sponsorship this could happen again? Since SCTA inactive at El Mirage during speed week, Perhaps that's the month it could happen w/o conflicting with anyone's race schedule. C'mon guys Step up and let's make it happen??!?????
Why can't a new, not top speed, event be held at El Mirage? Sort of like 1/8 mile or shorter drags. It would also avoid the nasty**** salt in the sand. A little dust never hurt anyone! Do it when S.C.T.A. is at Bonneville or after their season ends.
