Front suspension designs

  1. Nothing new. Original 260 cubic inch AC Shelby Cobras had the same style deal. Multi-leaf, not mono.
     
  2. My point was it is a newer vehicle and still using the old archaic obsolete needs to be reinvented design.

    Over the years, I have noticed the early drag FEDs had unusual front suspension. Compared to the super low slung dragsters of today.

    The yellow 1959 FED of Koenig and Pick not only had an unsual supercharger, but the suspension created the uplift when accelerating. Was the idea to shove the power from the motor back to the rear wheels by shifting weight. This car moved down the strip with the front end still high up in the air. It was completely different than the Chizzler from Chicago.

    The others had a variety of front suspension set ups for their own version of handling the cars down the strip. Everyone had their version of what worked best. Some were simple, some were more complex. What worked best? That was certainly a toss up.

  4. Datsun Pickups and Chevy LUV's had Torsion bar suspensions as well. Hall of Fame builder Dick Dean built the "Dot-Rod" back in the 80's using a 1970's Datsun truck frame. Lose the offset air cleaner and it looks pretty good!
