OK rush549! Sort of like a public intervention I guess, but now that I know I will just have to move! Any room out there in Kansas with you and Dorothy?
The only rant I have with the classifieds are guys who add nothing to this forum.. Are here only to post their cars "For Sale" and do a "BTT"... I have been on both ends of the classifieds section with cars bought & sold... it's nothing to get bent out of shape about... rush549 is right... It's because your from North Carolina... you scared them away..
Some ads seem to be put up only to assuage She Who Must Be Obeyed and prices are out of whack with market, plus replies might not be so great either. "Honey, I'm trying to sell it, see?"
Just so everyone knows, the seller did finally reach out to me this evening and we are working out the logistics of viewing the car. After speaking with him he seems to be an honest upright kind of guy. Don't know why the delay, maybe a bigger response than he was expecting, but my rant is over... feel free to keep adding the enlightening posts tho as they are fun to read!
I only wish when something is sold the ad was removed. It's such a bummer when your searching for parts and there all sold.
Yup. Classified ads should require upkeep, meaning that they expire and disappear if you do not keep them active. That way, if something sells, and you are just too damned lazy to let anyone who is looking for the exact same rare part, the ad will just disappear.
Maintaining the adds allows one to do 'market research' as to what the going prices are on various items. Can help tell if you've found a hot deal ....or found yourself an offer to get royally screwed.
I'd say that 75% of the Classified sellers don't know how to edit a post or thread. Pretty easy to hit edit, type in SOLD SOLD SOLD an hit save changes. I've noticed that all too often. Also if you wear a HAMB shirt at a swap meet you run into a lot of guys who tell you they check the classifieds all the time or sell on the but don't participate on the board or don't often look at the board. On the other hand I could not honestly tell you the last time I checked the classifieds.
BUT that same guy who doesn't post a pic for his 35k car, NEVER has a problem in placing the price in the ad.
The guys that ignore one of the rules of posting in the classifieds and refuse to put the price in the price area of the header. Price in ad, cheap price and other such BS to get you to open their ad is BS.
1 Lucky 1 I don't buy a lot of cars but,if I am interested and call a person and say I am going to show up .I SHOW UP. Then if the car isnt up to snuff, I don't lie to them and say I will be back. I just tell them in a FRIENDLY way its just not what I am looking for and thank them for their time.Bruce.
bangngears, its a crap shoot with craigs list.Like you said most of the people don't even show up and the ones that do don't have the money and want to low ball you on the price. Heck I even had a guy that wanted to trade me goats for a car I had for sale. Another thing with craigs list .I never show my car for sale at my home , its always in a local place with a lot of people around. I don't need any crack heads scooping out my home. LOL. Bruce.
Do you think a mod is going to open the ad to see why you bumped it. Use the edit button on the bottom of YOUR posts
Sellers - please EDIT YOUR POST TO SOLD if whatever you are selling is SOLD. NO NEED TO BUMP IT. It's called courtesy. If a seller does not have a price listed in the price box - please hit REPORT and Mods will delete the post. Of course multiple items in one ad - the word "listed" in the price box is appropriate for multiple items and list itemized prices in the ads. I've also noticed quite a few "New" as in "WAY TOO NEW" ( modern) - parts you can buy from Speedway or Summit parts advertised in the parts for sale on a regular basis and increasing. About to clean that up.
Rush549, obviously your a closet North Carolinian! I am laughing like a fool as there is a cheer wine distribution facility not a mile from here! Cant stand the stuff personally...
Well that's it, I might as well set myself on fire right now. Every ad will get bumped to the top because it's sold.
No no no. In your past bumps on the thread, just edit the last bump and make it a "sold". No bump. Everyone's happy. Now if the item sold without any BTTT's, then you change the initial listing I.e. Wording as "sold". See we saved your burnt butt.
Yep use the edit button but it's Obviously WAY too difficult. This is different than what corn cob coupe said If everyone bumps their ad with sold, cruising the classified changes from looking for stuff that is for sale into cruising what's been sold.
I fixed my original post There is no need to do a new reply bump to your ad to sold. Just edit your original ad somewhere to SOLD Capitalize SOLD so people can see it.
My heart hurts for you. How does anyone begin to even understand something like this. My daughter passed away suddenly 30 months ago but I still don't know what anyone could say to comfort you. God bless.
I have to confess that I am guilty of the transgressions listed above. I listed my Safari wagon for sale and promised to follow up with more pictures as soon as I could clear out the area around it. Things just haven't seemed to co-operate for a number of reasons and to those who contacted me and I didn't respond promptly I apologize. I am still trying to get things accomplished so please bear with me.
Now, after all this discussion about the classified ads, the MANY guys who post the ads, but never frequent the H.A.M.B. forums know nothing more.
I think we all need to keep in mind that this is a free service. Sure, it would be great if everyone was a perfect seller, and the Mods spent half their time deleting old ads, but I'm not willing to pay out money for classifieds police. Are you? See below. But also, a good rule of thumb when searching for parts, is to look at the date the initial ad was posted. If it's from 2012, likely that it's sold. If it's from last week, much better chance it's still around. When the forum change happened and all the old classifieds were deleted, a lot of good information was lost. If old ads were deleted, there would be no reference point for current market value of items. I like having the old ads as a reference point, even if it is a little more clutter. I currently have an ad for vintage hot rod magazines. I have 19 different magazines listed. My ad header reads 'Price In Ad' as each magazine is listed for a different price. Would you prefer I create 19 individual ad's for each magazine, with the price for each listed in the header? I think not. It's not BS to get you to open my ad, it's just what it is...
