I am thinking FX/FJ Holdens in back row and Vauxhall Wyverns in the front row. Both GM cars
    Hillmans were Rootes Group cars.

Question?......this is the Santa Monica, CA ''incline''?.....is ''this'' the same road that was prominent in the movie "It's a mad, mad, mad, mad world"?....Spencer Tracy was taking off with the cash after it was found, and drove down a steep road, and made a hairpin turn at the bottom of it, chased by the hoard of Hollywood treasure hunters....is ''this'' the road, or is there other roads in the area that is 'similar' that I am mistaken??? I've always been curious about that scene ....I've been north & south of Santa Monica, but never been on that part of the California coastline for some reason ...it's been 30 years last time I was in California.... my mind is foggy as to the actual scene location. I don't see and ''W" shaped palm trees to indicate the area:D d3397057b8ae2944c5eeff3e04171d30.jpg

  11. Not OSHA approved. It might be easier to bring the tree to the saw.

Yes it is... There is a park up on the hill on the right side of the photo. Not sure if the palms are still there but back when the movie was made they were. They were straight as tall palms are and they were pulled together in pairs for the movie shoot. After it was over, they were untied and went back normal.

yes....only 1 survives today....Auburn went out on a limb....I'm curious to what it sounded like....that 'growl' of a diesel in a car, ... an unheard market at the time.

Studebaker also dabbled in a sedan with diesel power. A few '63 (think) Larks were powered by a Perkins diesel engine.

Yes, This is that incline! It is under major reconstruction now as erosion has taken its toll on the hillside.

I really dig this, only because I've done it more than once when I was younger.

I enjoyed the old pics of Idaho Springs, CO. I too spent some time here on family vacations as a kid, my dad was born (1910) and raised here. He used to tell stories of how life was back then, he ran a trap line that he would check by ice skating up Chicago Creek - before going to school. I'm told that his dad, my grand dad, built most of those rock retaining walls by the roads around there. Here's a pic of my dad, 2nd from the left, and some of his buddies taken around 1923 in downtown Idaho Springs.

  29. I think that would be the FRONT of Grauman's, across Hollywood Blvd. with the Hollywood hills behind.
I seldom go to Hollywood, I could be wrong.
