Jack Kulp 1959. Innovative racer, doesn't get the credit he deserves.

I know I have seen the car above in Howards Cam ads before, but I cant find it. I have also been looking at photos of Howard Johansen, I think this might actually be him working on the car, but I don't think its the Doug Cook/Jerry Johansen Stude in the photo, it was a dark colour.

Any thoughts? Maybe @Dean Lowe would know?

I think that is Jim Nelson of Dragmaster fame. Oceanside is pretty close to where Nelson and Martin ran Dragmaster.

That was my initial thought, then I started to wonder if it was Jazzy. Was Jim Nelson an Oilers member? I will do some digging, and see if I can find out, I think I know where to look.

    Hey FG,
Perhaps it is Al Hirshfield in his Studebaker sedan.
    Jnaki
He was one of the top gas class driver (car) at Lions. Howard cam and had the "look" of the backyard builders/drivers... jeans, white t shirt, boots...a 50's guy look. My brother liked that look and patterned our 40 Willys with a bunch of Howard Cam stuff in the final build prior to the explosion.

If, the car in the picture is the car that set the record, this is impressive.

Could be, that name strikes me as right. The car was in a couple Howards cam ads, but I haven't been able to find it, but Al Hirshfield could be right.

A number of years ago He recreated this car and was competeing at nostalgic race events like the hot rod reunion and such. I saw him run at Indy when the Goodguys still had the vintage drag racing there.
