I wonder if anyone knows where this car went next. Probably about 1968 or knows of George Whalen from the Scranton Wilkes Barre area. Sounds like R and M Auto in New Britain Connecticut might be in the trail in at least the early 80's maybe earlier also ? Royal Coachman maroon Connecticut Dragway ?

 

Modified Stock maybe.

Nope, Modified Sport was /MSP (at least in NHRA) In Australia /MS was Modified Stock (as opposed to /S for Stock and /MP for Modified Production). In Oz /MS had to have the original engine and more modifications were allowed than in/S. /MP usually means an engine from the same manufacturer as the body but not necessarily available as a production combination. Of course you then have NHRA's /GT classes but they came way after the cut off for this thread.

Maybe IHRA or AHRA version of NHRA's C/MP? I don't think it's a Nascar class designation.
Mt. Pleasant, Ohio is in the SE corner of the state, closest track would've probably been Pittsburg International. Who santioned races there?

Really nice car, go back to the above thread for a real history lesson...I noticed that in a later picture the crew is wearing "Motor Monarchs" jackets, that was Dave Marquez's old club, famous for the Ardun powered deuce roadster that Dave ran, made the cover of HRM...I was going through my collection and found another picture of it:

 

On the East coast in 1964 we ran a 1955 Chevy at Atco in the C/MS class which was replaced by C/MP in the following years. I don't recall the MS rules but we ran a single 4 barrel and 4 speed. To the best of my recollection it was the forerunner for the Modified Production class. At least that the best this old racer can remember lol.

Pretty rough. It also looks like the plug wires could get a little warm at speed.

 

I'm not sure on this one, maybe Keeter & Stewart? I guess that this is perhaps '62 or '63.


Mike Marinov from Milwaukee. blown Chevy, at the NHRA Nationals, photo from the Dave McClellan files. Mike came to Bakersfield and really put on a show.


Denny Andrews in the Andrews, Mankhin (sp?), and Snodgrass Ford-powered altered, which later got a Mustang body and became "Psycho." Denny went on to a fuel dragster, which he gold-leafed the cowl...but unfortunately he blew the engine at San Gabe and destroyed it when it went off track...he worked with me at Blair's, great engine guy.


Brisette, Brammer, and Herbert...SPE car, I later got the nose from this car and put it on my B/FD.


Drifters of Redondo Beach, fuel coupe with a flathead, at Santa Ana...


Willie's Pie Wagon, from Vista...Clyde Wilson, if I remember right....light blue, this car ran at lost of SoCal tracks with a gas flathead, and won often.....but my guess is that the Fiat with the blown Chevy in the other lane probably won this race.

Jerry Baltes at the Pop Rodding meet, 1964. This car was reproduced, then the original was found and restored so now there are two of them.
