History Drag cars in motion.......picture thread.

Wicked is an understatement! Too bad it didn't last long. It got wadded up at LIONS. I guess it was called "Sudden Death" for a reason.

Wow, that's great! I recall reading about it in Hot Rod magazine.

 

Before and After....He put it into the sand trap at Lions...was unhurt but the result is above. He was "interesting,' to put it mildly...he spoke his mind, and was probably the best builder at getting the most out of the fewest dollars. I heard somewhere that he became a professional golfer after he retired from drag racing.

 

Thanks Dean. Thanks Dave. Professional golfer? I'm gonna' let that one soak in for a little while. Hey, why not. A lot quieter & safer sand traps until the 19th hole maybe.

 

Not a drag car.

 

When Jenkins sold that car to a guy in Florida,he remarked "One of us is crazy..."

 

I helped with the rear wheelbase alteration. Towed it back to Long Island over the Verrazano bridge with a towbar!

 

Looks like Ron Barrow. That chassis was an ex-Sammy Miller T/F,who bought it from somebody on the West Coast. It had a full nosepiece,but rather than cut it up,Ron took it off. It didn't get sold with the chassis.

I noticed the Hemmings article says Jenkins started with 427-cu.in., but those valve covers look like 409 to me.

 

The Batmobile is on the start line of a drag strip. The driver has helmet on ready to make a pass. That's a drag car in my book.

 

I think they built one for drag racing with a 427fe in it for exhibition show, driven by wild Bill Shrewsberry..

 

You can put on a helmet and take your mom's station wagon to a drag strip, and make a pass. That don't make it a drag car. The Batmobile is a Barris movie car at a drag strip for some sort of promotion. Nothing more.

 

Oh! I forgot to mention: Jenkins sold it for $34k (1980-something)
