I´m looking for a compressor for shocks (later bags). This time only for rear susp. Good suggestions are appreciated.
Viair has a plethora of different compressors to choose from and I used one on my previous Project. There must be some other brands that are good too, but cheaper, right?
I'll be watching this thread since I've been looking for one as well for some air shocks I'm running.
Are there any factory air ride cars over there? Gm wagons used to be a good source here. Some cars had self levelers over there.
Well, yes. It so happens, I have a Chevy Venture as a donor and it has some sort of a compressor. How much air can that move? How much pressure will it make?
Cheap and dependable? Old ( '60s era) FoMoCo air conditioner pump. They make a ton of air( enough to seat a tire bead). Yea I know too damned backyard for the newstalgia crowd.
York air conditioning compressor. Engine driven. 100% duty-cycle rated. Durable and cheap. It has been used on American and European cars, including Volvos, which you should have there. It looks like this: They are often not painted, so raw aluminum in appearance. These have their own "crankase" with a separate oil reservoir. The single wire is for an electromagnetic clutch. Apply 12V+, and it locks the clutch and pulley, turning it on. There are brackets for many common engines. These move enough air to run an entire bag system, with a decent sized tank. Here is a list of possible donors: Left hand suction: AMC 63-68 Audi 79-87 Ford 63-71 Ford LT Trucks 65-69 IHC Lt Trucks 73-78 Lincoln 63-68 Mercedes 59-79 Mercury 63-71 Volkswagon 84-88 Right hand suction: AMC 65-82 Chrysler 75-79 Dodge 70-83 Eagle 80-82 Ford 71-84 Ford LT Truck 70-85 Jeep 74-86 Mercury 71-84 Plymouth 74-83 Porsche 74-77 Volvo 73-84 Left hand/right hand are just the position of the ports on the head.
If you dont want to do that hippedy hoppidy stuff and just want to be able to adjust the al***ude. You could use an air compressor from Caddy that had air load leveling. Plumb air lines to the pump and wire a 3 position switch and you can raise and lower . No tanks or valves. Not fast but it works.
The York AC compressor is theonly way to go. 160 psi quick. You can also run air tools off them. They are a lot quiter than electric too.
Heck yeah, now we´re talkin´! I´d love to get a York (or similar) and I know I could find one but there is a deadline issue. It´s faster and more simple to put in an electric, as I already have all the othet elements installed and time is Limited. I´m pretty sure that on the next Project I´m going with mechanical but not with this. Talking about mechanicals and next projects, would Chevy ventures AC compressor work?
Mazda MPV up to 1998, some models had the air shocks with self leveling valve. Compressor was mounted on right side of radiator support (LHD) and leveling valve on rear axle. Compressor looks like a windshield wiper motor with a small compressor.
Do you know how many psi will it produce? Shocks can take well over 150 psi so that´s the goal for comp.
