WITH MUCH regret I failed originally (ed.) to mention IN THE TITLE the passing of original HAMB member TOMMY.

    Tommy. REST IN PEACE.

This show or next weeks? Let's dedicate to Tommy.

Apologies for opening with old stuff, before replacing with more relevant, if similar stuff.

This edit gives me the luxury of knowing this show is already a thriller..

Kiwi, who the hell taught you to lace your Doc Martins? Don't tell me that laces down-under don't cross. I already bit on that whole toilet bowl reverse swirl deal. And live from the HAMB, it's Friday Art Show!

    Hey BB,
When we were little in So Cal, we learned to tie our spit shined, smooth, toe shoes with this parallel version. It took a while to learn and it was hard to adjust the tightness, but it looked so cool. From that point on, even our high top black tennis shoes had this lacing pattern. But, once we played sports in our tennis shoes, the lacing got changed back over to the regular cross lace. Better adjustments and a tighter fit for sports activity.

Many years later, I taught my son (growing up) how to lace this way. for a little kid, it was very hard to adjust, so he wanted Van's slip ons for all of his shoes.

  19. jnaki, I really enjoy your stories, of growing up in So-Cal. I thought of your surfing days, when I got the idea for the 34 Woody on the Pacific Coast Highway. I love traveling that road. I'm drawing another 34 now. So I think I'll do a tribute to the model 40 this week. Here is a couple photos to go along with that theme. And thanks for a great show. I will need more coffee! ha. ha. 036.jpg 037.jpg 038.jpg Ron...

    Hey Ron,
Thanks for the comments...Ha...those days spent on Pacific Coast Highway are burned in my memory bank forever. Those teenage years were pretty nice. (school, cruising, surfing trips, parties, drag racing, camping on the beach, etc.) We were creative/adventurous to say the least. I wish I could have afforded a nice woody, but the 40 Ford Sedan Delivery was priced right and the many hours spent keeping it running was certainly fun.

As I was involved in photojournalism during the early 70’s, I thought it would be cool to arrive at photo shoots in whatever vehicle fit the moment. I already had a 65 El Camino, so that fit any scenario. When I bought the 2nd 40 Ford Sedan Delivery with the 327 and A/C, that was gladly accepted/acknowledged when I went to car photo shoots. (My wife liked this new 40 sedan delivery because it was a total comfort cruiser with A/C and some music.)

But, I was also involved in several motorcycle photo stories ranging from hot street racers to radical choppers. So, our next purchase was a 1971 Harley Sportster. Stock at first and then some mild customizing. The mild customizing was just enough for the chopper guys to accept it as “street chopped/modified,” but not as a full on, street chopper. The bike fit in and many more stories had “street cred” as a “one of us” scenario. They were more forthcoming in telling me their chopper backgrounds and stories.
    upload_2017-2-10_4-29-2.png upload_2017-2-10_4-29-13.png upload_2017-2-10_4-29-29.png
(stock to mild customizing Harley street header pipes, riser forks, custom “sissy” bar/backrest, chrome springs, chain cover, etc… 2017 photo art…)

So, when I went to the bike/chopper photo shoots, I arrived in style and was gladly acknowledged as the photographer/biker. This had advantages in both circles. More photo ideas for me and knowing what they were talking about in their builds. No stone left unturned… as the old saying goes.

But, when my wife and I went on our riding trips, we could only take what we wore and nothing else. She did not even take a purse…what, a woman without a purse?

She wanted to have extra space to carry “stuff” and requested some space. On a bike no less… So, I designed a couple of versions that could be easily made and attached to the tank and rear support bar that I had made.

Also, in addition, when I was by myself on photo trips, I always wore a military green backpack loaded with all of my camera equipment and stuff. Long rides with a backpack on did not always agree with the balance of weight distribution on the lower back. I finally figured out that strapping the rectangular military backpack onto the chrome rear “sissy” bar (in front of the bar) gave me lower back support for those long rides.

    Jnaki

Please excuse the “awful people” on the bike. I cannot draw people in any manner, shape or form… Awful, drawn people not based on us…just any couple riding a custom bike. 1971 Harley Sportster
