How about some real '39 Lincolns. Not the LED repros.

I don't have a photo but a friend used 50 Ford back up lights with a red double filament bulb. They looks really trick and definately different with a clear lense..

IDK if you can find red lenses to fit, but I like the bezels on the 49 Ford reverse lights.

EDIT: But you could cast them in red from a good positive!

I have a pair of 36 Ford horn covers that I plan to mount flat on the rear of the 31 roadster that I am building with tail lights behind them. These covers were cast in brass and chrome plated many years ago so they should look good. I also have both styles of 37/38 Desoto tail lights as well should I change my mind. taillight.jpg

I'd be all over those bullets if they were a little less pointy and tall. I really like the chrome bezel.

A slightly different approach...use stock '32 tail light stands, painted, not chrome. Swap on '35-6 Ford painted body/stainless rim taillights. If necessary, bend the stands for a sensible tail light orientation. Subtle cleanup from stock...

Sounds like Pete has his mind made up but I'll throw one more in the mix -
46-48 Ford turned vertical. Did it on my roadster. Cheap, easy and, I think, looked great.

I like (several makers) these roundish rectangular lights - I think they fit best with, mimic the styling of early coupes, which have both arched / rounded sections (like cowls, window mouldings, C-pillars, and wheel wells) and contrasting horizontal or square-ish lines (like windshield frames, visors and roofs) on the body. And I like the way they fit on the rear panels a lot more than vertical or round lights - despite long held traditions. Gary

I am all for doing something different, but only when it is an improvement. There are lots of places to do something original -- dashboard and interior, paint, pinstriping, windshield, wheels . . . metal finishes (have seen some great looks using nickel plating and bronze) But to my eye, hard to improve on these taillights.

A wee bit "new" but 60 chevy lights are round. . .and pointy. Small, plain chrome ring too
