I have a question. Why does someone put valve covers from a differnt engine on their engine? I saw several y-Block Fords with Lincoln valve covers and numerous sbc engines with Olds valve covers. I even saw a sbc with Lincoln valve covers. These engine were sure enough in Olds or Ford or Lincoln cars, but do they think we can't tell the difference bewteen a real Olds or Lincoln engine from a sbc? Maybe their is a reason I can't figure out? Please explain. Thanks
I'd like to get a set of y-block covers on my my sbf. I think they look a hell of a lot better. I know it's been done, somebody machined a set on a magazine car not long ago.
Simply put, they have an inferiority complex. Theyre trying to be something theyre not. Theyre wanting to be what they 'think' is cool without having to spend the money. They're posers in some people's opinion. Vance
I'm pretty sure Lincoln had a Y-block engine so that may have actually been a Lincoln engine. As for the sbc's with other valve covers? My guess is they want the look of something different with the ease and reliability of parts that the sbc offers.
the lincoln is a thing taht is correct in fact... BUT, the smc with fake rocket valve covers make me wanna stab the guy in his cheek./... i run a rocket, and cant STAND the posers
It's a variation on the faux patina theme? Like the distributors that look like magnetos and the FI that looks like 97s. When I was a youngster, we had to fake it with decals. Posing has come a long way. .
On the subject, can someone please tell me what this is? Y-block valve covers, but not same exhaust spacing. Distributor in rear, so not a 289 type Ford? I'm stumped?
Aha! Looks like you got it. Come to think of it, those Y-block covers do look kinda' stubby -- so looking closer they've been sectioned to fit. Regular Y-block cover has 8 of those little sections between the indentations -- this one's got 5. Gotta give points for creativity. Sure weren't any "traditional V-6's.
On the topic of the valve cover swaps tho...its pretty obvious why people do it, and I think most times they cant be told the difference...by the people they are trying to decieve. Magazine readers, casual cruise night people. Just trying to have the "servicable anywhere" motor but with a more nostalgic look. When I put the smallblock in my 55 Olds, I didnt even try. Painted it bright red with Chevy valve covers. Why try? Linc did make a Y. Rad motor. The wierd thing is when properly dolled up, a smallblock Chevy can look awesome. Corvette script covers etc...I dont get why people wouldnt just do that. When I hopefully track down the right 327 for my Merc thats exactly how I want it. Why fake it with Olds stuff? Ive owned a bunch of Rocket motors...have no desire to put a ton of hard miles on a car with one of those under the hood...just for the fear of out of state breakdown and no backup parts.
Funny how some fakes are somewhat acceptable, like the alternator hiding in a generator case, or zoomies with baffles.
What's the difference in this and putting a Deuce grill shell on a Model A? Or a Chevy engine in a Ford car? Seriously guys. They're hot rods - made of many parts from many places to suit the BUILDER'S taste. Go build something.
Andy, Brillant! Simply Brillant! Kinda like the big '80's when guys would run stacked but gutted 6-71's cases on top of their Caprices. Now that is GAY!
The difference is that when you put a Deuce grill shell on a Model A, you aren't trying to represent it as something other than a Deuce grill shell. BTW, I got the trailer home to Mississippi. Thanks.
So is it gay to run a 216 valve cover on a 230?...I THINK NOT. You inliners know what Im talking about. As for Olds covers on a SBC...I think its pretty lame. Hey how about the fake flat head valve covers for SBC's...I know someone around here has a picture. ****ing disgusting.
I don't really have an opinion but it does strike me as funny that everyone raves over the Lunar Lander ( as they should, I saw it this weekend and it's amazing. I really enjoyed talking to Plowboy as well.) , but no one complains about it's Olds covers.
yeah i saw a ton of imposters... made me want to F-U-C-K-I-N-G PUKE.. my 394 wants to kick those sbcs in the junk a few times...
I run these on a Ford pickup. I like them and could care less weather you do or not. BTW anyone know what year these are from?
Dirty 31 is right! Ha Ha Ha Also, just because we want to, I did it mainly to piss people off (Hi irritant and Randy D! Ha Ha Ha). I would guess that 95 percent of the people don't know the difference. I listened to people comment on the "Olds motor" in my car all weekend, and they were old enough that they should have known the difference. I would rather get my car built then wait another year to save the money to rebuild an Olds motor. I could give a **** about being "period correct", I am cheap and I was born in '73. It only takes about 20 bucks to put on the valve covers rather than 2 grand to do the motor, then figure out the ****** on top of that. Why spend the money? If that makes my car any less of a car then so be it. I am not out to win any popularity contests (but I would like to sell a few T-shirts! Ha Ha Ha) For those people who want to ***** about it, I say get a life and get busy in the garage, or go solve the world hunger problem, cause that is what I'll be doing.
they do it to give the low post count-ers something to ***** about on the HAMB. quit yer ****in *****in about what valve covers someone runs and go make something.
