… Ouch … no big deal but is it just me or are they just strapping the tie down chains directly to the wheel spokes as that would absolutely put the wheels out of balance and on a race car to boot. On my Healey I used take the spindle off and put a special spindle cap on that had a ring on it to tie down with …

  7. and it was performing well. it was built from parts from the high class Mercedes 300 S and a 300 SL engine which allowed to go more than 100 mph. faster than a lot of the sports cars of this era.

in the 90's Mercedes Benz gave order to built a replica of this after the one and only original was scrapped in `67. Truly an impressive piece of steel.

Looks like the tie-downs have a loop that goes around the hub behind the knock-off. A older work colleague (now long retired) had photos of the transporter taken when the MB team visited the UK.

That same model Murray pedal car was also my first car, got it for Christmas in 1965. It stayed at my parents house for years and my niece and two nephews played wit it when they were young. I still have it, it's beat up, but still in working order.

Although not contemporary to the car, the pic was taken a few years ago.

The damaged vehicle is a 1933 Continental 'Beacon' Sedan imported from USA. The body could possibly be Australian design and adapted to fit the 4 cylinder Continental chassis. The Maltese cross attached to the radiator grille was put on cars by some medical practitioners. The two onlookers are taxi drivers; the man on the left is from Blue and White Cabs, man on the right from Black and White cabs, which later merged to form one company.
