After seeing so many chopped, a full roof looks a bit goofy. Is it just me?

If you are still contemplating a chassis change a thought. If that is the original frame with matching vin # for that car I would definitely not let it go. Some states are becoming a real PITA about original vin # and aftermarket chassis, etc. etc. I learned last year with a 3W I bought that some are sending DMV inspectors to look for real numbers and aren't accepting aftermarket chassis with tags or restamps.

Agreed with the above post. Seal beams, horns, cowl lights, and spare tire. Dropped axle, and shackle the rear leaf spring to bring her down a little.

    Yeah,Ray..I'm around,shoot me a txt.

No and no..I did sell the 5 window(regretfully!) that I built from a 4 dr. sedan but I didn't sell it to buy another car..I was trying to buy a bigger shop(still looking) when this 3 window popped up and I couldn't refuse..Truth be told,I walked away from this car when I first looked at it! Didn't like the SBC,so I passed on it..Didn't even make an offer on it!..The owner called me a week later and we made a deal.

Yep. NJ is a PITA state with titles and stuff like that..I had a solution for it IF I swapped frames but I've decided to leave it as-is..This SBC does run awesome and the OD trans gives it some legs!

I am looking for an original Ford axle that has been dropped and some used 3 window/2 drs sedan door panels if anybody has some they want to part with!

  17. In the next couple months I'm gonna send 3 or four axle's to Kohler's to get dropped. If you haven't got one by then I can can hook you up. Hell two of them i bought from you!

As for someone who is in the middle of a flathead project I am just going to tell you that you will never spend more money to get so little horsepower.
The money it will take to build a middle of the road 150 horsepower flathead you will be able to build a 400 plus small block.
That being said the flathead is a awesome looking and sounding engine and it would be a period correct 40/50 hot rod.[IMG]

  22. I think you're being a bit optimistic . . . I could easily build a 600 HP SB for probably less than you'll spend on your 150 HP flatty. Now, see what it takes to get closer to 200! LOL

Today with cheap imported heads your probably 100% correct.
And this will be the last flathead I'm building for myself for a while.
    That's for sure.
I built this engine in memory of my father who was a flathead racer back in the 40's and early 50's but after this one I'm back to horsepower.
The short block went together this weekend now some machine work on the lifters and it will be together.[IMG]

  24. I think it is great that you're building something to honor your Pops - keep at it! Yes, there are times for big horsepower (though none of it is cheap) - but like you, I have built a variety of engines for different reasons. It is nice to have a few options. Last night I drove my 32 Cab with it's nasty ass flathead -- was just a pleasure to go down the road in it (probably pushing 200 HP - but extensive work to get it). I kind of enjoy looking through the windshield and thinking that I'm having an experience just like the old racers did 70+ years ago . . . brings a smile to my face and makes my flathead projects worth it.

But, I like HP too -- so I'm also finally getting back to my blown 392 Hemi project and my 34 coupe. It is a very high-horsepower TF type build - Donovan 417 heads, 4-bolt main caps, Oliver rods . . . you know the drill. It will have silly horsepower for a light street car . . . but that is ANOTHER experience worth having! LOL

    I love the Hemi idea
Keep us posted on the results.
My 34 is my second I had one back in the late 60,s that I raced it started out with a 409 than a small block and finished with a 426 stage lll Mopar engine .
I sold it and always missed that car so when my parents passed I decided to this one in memory of them.
    Can't wait to see your
    Good luck [IMG][IMG][IMG]
