HRP, I think you just let the cat out of the bag. It has been implied that all these cool rides you have had through the years were built by YOU. Shame on you. A wife who can take a door down to the nuts and bolts surely has done LOTS and LOTS more. So, you apparently have the role of "driving Miss Daisy" rather than a calloused-handed builder. LOL

Quick question about the window frames.
When I get to take mine apart to replace the glass, the channel/frame itself is rusted out on the bottom.
I assume I will just need to be creative and repair it. Or do they sell channel that can be used to make new frames out of?
    Great write up and thanks!

If it's rusted to the point that the channel in the bottom is too bad I would try to find a replacement vent window.

I did just that before buying and installing the new pivots, the replacement vents were structurally sound but the pivots were rusted away in them also.

I am unsure what material your vents are made from, the 54's are stainless. HRP

When I drove my '56 F100 cross country years ago I had to shove a piece of cardboard under the wings every morning to keep them open all day. Worked great until that damn bee came in the drivers wing and into my shirt...

good write up. Any tips on removal/install? Seems all the razor sharp metal on any vehicle is located inside door panels.

I'm afraid there is no rewards without pain, but the vents usually are attached to the leading edge of the window channel and that attachment point is usually low in the door.

There are usually screws on the upper door jamb for the top of the vent window. HRP

New rubber helps but in my case it didn't completely stop it. HRP

I was going to ask about field expedients. Taking the drivers side door apart isn't real high on the priority list at the moment, but I really like my wing window.

While reworking my '51 F1 a few years ago I took the guts out of the doors to replace the glass, fix the wings and clean everything up for new rubber. Kinda time consuming and I had to replace a couple of screws with brass screws but it worked okay.
