I am not a big fan of chrome so wanted to blackout all chrome but cannot make up my mind. Like the flat olive brown and flat dark brown ( all the flat tan and brown colours). Only problem is it will be used so looking for a clear coat example that will work with blacked out chrome. Would love some ideas from you guys or examples. Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
The blacked out look IMO is for new raised diesel trucks with big tires ( Yuck ) I'll translate your first line for you: "I'm not a big fan of chrome" Translation : I can't afford chrome. IMO a big part of the charm of a 47 truck is the chrome
Not a big fan of polishing chrome, perhaps. I agree a chrome grille and bumper on an AD truck looks great, I guess they all tend to look the same though, black is definitely different (around here). I'm thinking of doing a mix of black and chrome on my A to make it unique when I get going on it, but some chrome is necessary.
To me a pick up doesnt need chrome. They were work horses that came from the factory without the shiny stuff.
^^^^ I think it looks great! Guess I'm not too anal about "back in the day".....I try to not have tunnel vision.
General MacArthur's 1942 Packard limo, with air conditioning, built specifically for him and used all during the war. When finished with it, he gave it to his driver and had it shipped back to the states for him. You can see all the chrome is painted military green in this case.
This picture started it , but I want something I am going to use daily and might be parked outside in the sun while I am at work and I am getting mixed reports on the longevity of matte colours Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
You prob right. Currently have a light grey truck with metallic carbon fibre grill and trim. Chrome just make it look over the top. And I like to be different and not follow the normal path Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
Nice colors and a thin band of chrome on the grille bars as accent rather than full chrome would look good.
Anybody have an idea of what colour this might be? Cannot find any build info Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
The plain Jane AD trucks came one color with the front grill bars painted body color and the background painted white. From what I have found over the years is that 47 trucks normally came with chrome bumpers but painted bumpers wouldn't be bad as long as they were not body color and were black or white o maybe gunmetal gray. On that I have to agree with Blue one, Monochromatic paint jobs are for late model jacked up 4x4's an not AD trucks or any old truck. Personally for what you want with no chrome I'd paint the truck the color of my choice and maybe come close to an original color for 47 trucks and paint the grill background, bumpers and running boards black. I like body color running boards but Black is a hell of a lot easier to touch up if they get to showing wear from getting in and out. First time my dad was around my 48 after I painted it red with red running boards he propped his cowboy boot up on the running board in a John Wayne pose leaning on the side of the bed and I had a fit.
If you do a true premium matte clear you will get the durability. PPG has D8115 and D8117 and they can be blended together to get different levels of matte or flat. It can be applied over solvent basecoat or EHP waterbase. Gun setup and application is critical, and cannot be compromised. This clear dries slow and obviously can't be buffed. It is bulletproof once cured. It will take 240 to sand this stuff after it's cured. It's not cheap, but incredible and doesn't have the stripey look that cheap magazine/wagon peddler clears and colors have, let alone the durability. D8115 is OE on Lamborghini flats from the factory...here's a link to a product data sheet: https://buyat.ppg.com/refinishprodu...x?FileId=5CB183B9-9676-416D-AAB0-1016A78CB802 http://us.ppgrefinish.com/getmedia/...301_grs_D8115-D8117_shop_en.pdf.aspx?ext=.pdf Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
