The frame is 1/4" thick,2"X 5" tapered from the cowl forward to 3". Front and rear crossmembers are 1/4" 2"X 5" with corner braces made from 1/4"X 2" X 2" Aluminum Once the floor is done it will be sort of a Unibody. It's pretty rigid and I plan on driving it...A lot!

  2. How about a pic or two of the rear suspension?

  4. Wow! That's awesome!
I would definitely not paint it.
I bet it will weigh less than 1500# with that 4-banger...
Didn't the Vega have an aluminum 4 cyl? That would be in keeping with the theme, but I like the idea of the Pinto power.

Sorry it took so long. I've been moving and finally got the car moved into the new garage. Lost about two months so I am getting back in high gear. Plus these weird, warm February days make me want to go for a drive!

If I remember correctly, that engine is about 95-100 horse in stock configuration. Any details on your mods yet or is it just mocked up?

A nurse would do. You know, the kind in the old outfit with the garters showing and, oh wait. Hot rods, customs...sorry.

WOW. Why couldn't I have seen this for ideas some years ago before I retired from Alcoa. I was a maintinence electrician in the plant welding & fab shop. With this idea I surely would have been coming in early to "test" a bunch of the equipment I worked on. Every piece of equipment needed to cut, shear, bend, roll, weld, etc was at my disposal. So was the aluminum. Employees got a great discount on aluminum from the scrap bin. Fixed them when they had problems, tested them when I needed something made. The good old days.

Another thing about the above post on PRIAPISM is the 1st Cav Patch in his avatar. If he wore that in Nam he dammed well earned it. If he wore it later he likely dammed well earned it also. Thanks for that.

It was in a friend of mines Pinto that was pretty quick. He swapped it with a smallblock because he kept getting beat by "Tuna Cars"(his term for Tuner Cars). I rode in the car and it was pretty stout. I'm going to rebuild the engine. if its not enough there's always turbocharger or a small blower. Would have liked to have an aluminum V-8 but this engine was a freebie.

The SVO Mustang with the 2300 Turbo were bad ass so were the T birds. Have seen them twist the input shaft off the automatics several times. I worked at a large Ford Dealer Ship in Dallas. Frank

I had a Turbo T-Bird with the 5 speed stick. It was a blast to drive on a twisty road. Downshift going into a turn, get the turbo up and stand on it exiting...and listen to my then wife squealing with delight.

I use to race 4 cylinder modified running both the 2.0 and 2.3. You can get some nice horsepower out of these engines. Esslinger Engineering is a great resource for parts and information on how to accomplish it.

I'd do a brushed look to that aluminum and park a matching V-Rod in the bed. Just sayin.
