Well, you didn't have to worry about crushing a fender.

    Moe racing from Ormond beach

Here’s some work being performed on a 1905 Simplex on the beach. The big guy appears to be working on the rear sprocket or something on the end of the axle.

Here is a Darracq circa 1905.

This looks like the “entry” road to the course itself. Note the curbs built up with sand over planks and the fact that they are perpendicular to the water.

Talk about bad luck this photo from 1908 shows people trying to free up a Cleveland Runabout car that crashed into the remains of a shipwreck.

This swoopy looking piece was undoubtedly one of the more interesting cars of the 1905 speed campaign on the sand. It was built by Renault and M.G. Bernin was the driver.

  16. This one is great! Thanks Mart, I've haven't seen it before. This whole area underwent a huge change and lost a very vibrant and close knit community over the years due to short-sightedness by the City of Portland.

Hey Mart, these cars are Simca's right? Here's a new one for sale in Victoria B.C. Canada. Or maybe they are Renault's? Simca.jpg Tip-Top Auto Sales 1030 Yates St..jpg

Just a note to those of you who post images and stories on old race cars here - if you don't know this, there are already other HAMB threads dedicated to specific types and periods of racing. And while it's great to see what you post here in a general thread, I'm a little worried that your inputs will also get buried here, eventually harder and harder to find as they are covered up, or muted so to speak, by the succeeding avalanche of images. Would it be better to post them elsewhere, like one of the existing vintage oval racing threads, the pre-WWII racing thread, the drag racing threads, salt flat / dry lake threads, etc.? Or even start other specific threads for them? Gary

Swi 66, you might want to edit out one of the pics above.. Definitely overstepping what is allowed.
