I wouldn't want to let the tach in the photo go, its absolutely mint, and I have the FE tach drive distributor and cable for it as well, but if you are really interested, I could probably round up another moroso cable tach, any preference as to back or bottom drive, or face size? Let me think on it a bit, and maybe we can discuss it further.

let me think about it. I will see if I can find the old RAC, and see what kind of shape its in, and I will see if I can round a moroso up locally.

Thanks and thanks for posting the catalog pages again. That cleared up a lot. I'm confident that I can make my '55 Stude tach work in my roadster now.

This Wico still works, pulled it from the 59 Ford drag racer I posted in the Sitting and Rotting thread.

Those were absolutely gorgeous tachs George.
I acquired a used one in the early/mid 70's, looked brand new but never could get it to work. Kept it for years just didn't have the heart to pitch it, one day I finally did........damn.

Nice bunch of tachs. You can't put a new fangled tach on a vintage car, it just looks wrong. There are always plenty of vintage tachs on eBay. I've used a bunch of Sun Super Tach ll's with no box required.

  15. I'll try and abridge the flamingo thing for ya. When I was still in braces my big sister and I went to a yard sale in Pacifica, CA. (would have been very late '50s). There were two flamingos, I don't remember how much they cost but I had my piggy back money and my sis gave me enough to buy them. We put them in the front yard. Fast forward to that evening, dad came rolling in with Terry and Cokey and begins to throw a fit about who stuck those F'ing Flamingos in his yard. I was proud of my birds and Cokey says,"Johnny, Johnny, crippled kid remember!!!" they didn't stay in the yard but I kept them.

Ever since then when someone can't figure out what to get me I get a flamingo. My granddaughter got me that one for my B day and put it under my desk. its kind of nice, it nibbles on my knees sometimes. o_O :D

Hey George I got a tach like the middle one, with a matching speedo.

  16. Exactly what I was thinking.

I get all excited because I get my hands on something cool and take a look -- Moriarity has not only it, but the original store display for selling it. Very impressive collection sir.

    Ok, first things first,

God dammit Mark. I don't know why the res of us even bother haha.

What's the difference between a Gas and just a regular RAC? I think I might have an RAC in the garage...

Not only will he have 4 or 5 Variations of each example in a box but he will have found the roll of tape that the boxes were put together with. :) I am just green with envy:D

None really, and I have an RAC here. Its just the Gas Rhonda signature tach in a ford with a late sixties/early seventies vibe would be cool. He was a household name with ford guys at that time.

I bought this little tach on line at everyones favorite auction site and now I need to know how to hook it so I don't cook it.

4 wires, red, black, white and green. I figure red is 12v ignition hot, black ground, green distributor - lead and the white is lighting circuit? I think that is correct.

I am sticking this on the little Chevy II, just for fun. You cant have red line bias tires and no Tach. There is no internal switching for the 6 cyl, do any of you know what a I have to add for a capacitor to make it read correctly?

I knew you would approve George! I'm the kind of guy that takes collectable toys out the wrapper and play with them.

Any idea on the size of that capacitor to make these thing sweep correctly for my little 6?

This thing on? Check, check, check 2, sibilance, sibilance.

Specifics; the car I'm installing this on is a 1962 Chevy II, 194 6 cylinder, stock points and coil. Tell me what to grab from the shack and ill solder it in tonight.

  24. Ok. We all love 60s vintage tachs, that's a given. Why doesn't someone come up with a replacement circuit for those old trash battery boxes so we can use the vintage units? I can't imagine it being that difficult for the electronic techies.

Looks like it has already been done (see post #386). Quite frankly, at the price they are quoting, it makes no sense for us to further pursue this project unless the existing product has some serious deficiencies. It looks to me that they have all the bases covered.
