Looking for opinions on shifter preference, Lokar vs Gennie Shifter.

I have a Lokar for my C4 but I am less than happy with the push ****on operation.

Is the gated shift pattern of the Gennie shifter better ? Is it worth making a change to get that shift pattern rather than the Lokars push ****on ?

I'm thinking that I could save some $ and just buy the Gennie shifter and mate it to my Lokar mounting brackets.

  2. i have a Gennie in my `28 tudor and a Lokar in my `30 coupe....i like the Gennie a lot better. the gate is better than a ****on in my opinion

I thought Gennie Shifter wasn't around anymore. Are they?
I always preferred the Gennie, hate the push ****on.

  5. LMAO I'm going to finish before he does and I am slower than mol***es in January. :D

I know that everyone likes the tall stick, and it would be a major paint to adapt but I really like the GM shifters from the '6os. I got one here from a '64 Cutl*** that is just pure art.

Now to get back on track I have driven the Gennie and I like it real well. ;)

:D I have to do something to occupy my mind in the times I can't be in the garage :D
I got my exhaust back from ceramic coating and now I'm waiting on the chromed parts to be finished.....
The frame can be blasted soon and the prep for paint on that can start.....I sorted out my door closing issues with new reproduction latches and strikers.......
The shifter thing is something I'm considering as to what will work better when I actually get to drive this thing :D
Which will happen sooner or later ;)

:) That may have something to do with painting and then stripping it all off ;)

  11. American Shifter is a third choice but I don't know who owns who and what's made in China anymore.
I picked one up for a low cost for my GM350 but I won't have an opinion for ya until the end of the year. I had some issues right out of the box which I hope are fixed but I'm still wondering how it will eventually feel and perform.

Attention new guys: this has been discussed more than once (Gennie gets the nod) and for American Shifter, that has also been discussed specifically (unfavorable.) It always pays to do a HAMB search before buying anything.

I think I'm convinced to dump my American Shifter cheap on the 'bay and get me a Gennie.

Have had both, both are a good product IMO, no problem with either one.

Gennie shifter hands down! I have a friend with a Lokar and the ****on rod rattles like hell, very annoying. The ****on is a pain while the gated Gennie works as easy as a column shift.
Of co**** I'm biased since my brother Tom started Gennie shifter Company in 1982.

I like my Lokar shifter, but then I've never owned a "Gennie".

The Hurst "quarter-stick" in my last ride was a royal pain in the ***!

After dealing with a highly overpriced Lokar ****** tube (dumb*** adapter and all) I cant imagine their shifters would be worth a damn either.

I like the gated shift on a Gennie as compared to the Lokar's annoying ****on; besides you can't put one of Millwork's nifty V/8 shift knobs on a Lokar without that goofy "push-the-knob-down" adapter. The Gennie Lo-Stick let you use/make your own stick too.

My son put a 'push****on' shifter in his cl***is '27 'Nose Job'...(327/350 TH trans) Selecting reverse is like finding 'Wally', and the tall stick screams, "I AM like a LaSalle!"
He's designing something else for it, as @RICH B mentioned: 'Make your own stick!'
My LaSalle stick in my '27 is a little 'lengthy', but it's a LaSalle. A real one.
I'd sooner trim my beard than disfigure a LaSalle stick by shortening it...there's a p***age in the bible. Levi, it was.
So, some controversy here, as usual...
