We spent several hours in Helper Utah this evening. I stopped here last year and took a quick look around but completely missed the other side of town. Seem that when the interstate was put in it split the town right in half.

    Here is the other half.....

Anybody else notice that the brick in the first photo has the word "Acme" stamped into it?

Also in Helper Utah is the old administrative building of the Utah Railroad. The building was last used in the 1980's. I posted some photos of this place last year but my battery died soon after getting there.

This year I was fully charged before our "self guided tour" and came away with some photos of great stuff.

This old water tower is amazing. Built in 1929.

And then on the inside we found some really old stuff. By the way, we only looked and take photos everything was left just as we found it.

There were flat files full of blueprints dating back to the 1930's of track schematics buildings and even old wiring diagrams.

We also saw LEDGER #1 just laying out on a stack of boxes. This was all financial data of the goings on in the admin building from the late 1920's.

And then there was the stock room that had everything from office supplies and maintenance supplies to brand new replacement parts for the train cars. The photos below are just a sample of what we saw.

The town Helper got its name because the trains would stop there in town and be hooked up to "helper" engines to get them over the pass into Salt Lake.

Is the town abandoned? Or was it just early in the morning?

First off, thanks for letting us tag along for the adventure/history lesson. Are you taking the same route as you did last year @Acme Speed Shop? One of these years I have to follow out to Texas in my RPU. I just have to finish it first!

Safe travels John & Mike! I always enjoy following your road trips to the LSRU. I can't make it down there this year, so I'll be checking in on your adventure. Thanks for all of the photos!
