Growing up my dad wasn't into cars, they were just transportation but I got bit early by the hot rod bug and our twins came home from the hospital in Brenda's '54 Ford Wagon and they rode in the back seat of our 1940 Ford sedan for thousands of miles,we hit a lot of long distance shows over the years. No but my granddaughter has. I have earlier pics but not here, she had her first ride at 6, I think. She is 14 now and still loves to ride in the T.

I was about 10 when Dad got the first hot rod done. Many family vacations after that to the Nationals or ColoRODans runs. And lots of local rod runs on the weekends. In the back seat of a chopped '33 Ford tudor, listening to Waylon and Willie.

Dad was in the Air force and we moved a lot. He had sweet Bellflower style 62 Olds 2door and then a 67 Baracuda fastback, then it was time for a family car. So he and mom got a 70 340 Dart. Then came the deployment to Japan and then Me and my brother. He had 52 Chevy pickup he drove till we left Texas for Hawaii. After that, no old cars for years. But we would build model car hot rods and pour over every magazine out there. I still have every issue of Street Rodder from issue one up till 1999 I believe. I was infected with Hot Rods from a very young age, and have been obsessed with them my entire life. After I got out of high school Dad and I finally started building his 29 Roadster on 32 rails. Since then we have ac***ulated more cool old stuff then I ever imagined we would have. My boys Ride to school nearly every day in wither my 51 Chevy, or occasionally Dads 57 nomad. My oldest is 12 and already has a 54 F100. and my youngest has laid claim to my 39 Tudor. Luckly I still have my 31 sedan and 32 sedan to finish building. We live and breathe hot rods in my house. And I thank my dad often for infecting me. If you have kids Hot Rods are the best way to keep you kids off drugs and from out boozing it up on the weekend. They will be too broke to buy dope from spending every dime on hot rod parts and always at home in the garage on the weekends working on the hot rod!

My dad got his early '30 model A standard roadster in 1946, not really a hot rod but it does have a Winfield cam and big an littles on '35 wires. Their are pictures of my sisters and I riding in the rumble seat, long before I can remember. A lot of great memories from the time I can. Still have his A, with the same maroon paint and red wheels from when he bought it.

I grew up in the back seat of many different restored antiques. I have just recently came over the the 'Dark Side' (according to my Dad) of building hotrods. He is gone but I do believe he would be on board with traditional hot rods. Mom always tells a story about how I was a month old and went to my first car function in or '22 Buick!
I have a picture of me when I was about 17 driving that buick. I will try and post it later.

When my oldest daughter was around 8 or 9 we had an ot pro streeted car with a full cage, no back seat. She use to crawl in between the bars and sit on the tin between the tubs while we cruised all over. Don't know how but she would even fall asleep back there. Today I'd probably go to jail for child abuse for letting her do that, maybe rightfully so. I shudder to think what could of happened to her if we had ever gotten into an accident, no belt and sitting in the middle of those steel bars.
Guess it wasn't any worst then us riding in the back of the pick up. Nice weather we would never ride up front with the folks, no one ever thought twice about it.

No joke,I bet I logged a thousand miles riding in the back of a pickup as a kid. HRP

  12. LOL define back seat. :D

First hotrod I actually remember was a Plymouth business coupe. My dad cut out the package shelf and rigged up a seat. After that car I don't recall him owning but a roadster. Fun was the 4 of us in the roadster, my sis and I in the middle.

Beano, when the twins were about two years old all I owned was a Model A pickup and a 40 sedan ans we were going to my sisters wedding in Greenville,S.C.,roughly 36 miles from my home and the 40 wouldn't crank, another 6 volt story.

We all 4 got in the Model A pickup and Brenda had the girls sitting in her lap,we were tighter than sardines and when we arrived at the church Brenda had to sit in the truck for at least 15 minutes before the feeling returned to her legs.

Luckly for her may parents were there and they took the girls with them.

Today riding like that could probably get me locked up. HRP

  15. My sis and I used to sit in the middle me on her lap. She always complained that I had a boney ****. She used to pull jacket out in the back and let the cold air shoot down my neck. I think that is probably why I am not a big roadster fan today. :D

I still remember scrambling over the seat of the old coupe to get in the back. I don't recall it being an issue.

Most of what we did with our parents and our own kids would land us in the pokey today.

No back seat, but I spent every Friday night during race season squished between wheel tubs holding on to the cage of a bad *** 57 Chevy! No real reason to hold on, hell it when it launched it plastered you so hard against the trunk firewall you couldn't move until he left off. Dad and the owner would work all week getting it ready for the drag strip and then you could set you watch to it, late Friday night on the outskirts of town, they would make a couple of test hits. I have been hooked every since.

    Hello,
In all of my dad's many Buicks from 49-57, my brother and I always took turns riding in the package tray in the back above the seats. It was a panoramic look at the world. Since you could only lay down, it multiplied the effect. Remember there were no seat belts, so we lived in that back seat for many trips all over California. The best one: my dad's big, black 49 Buick 4 door sedan. it was larger than our first apartment!

I am sure there are numerous stories about those silly kids riding back there. It was a fun time in those old cars... "Boys in the bubble..." In the 60-90's, there were too many regulations for those silly antics.

I stay at home with my daughter so you can see my Buick running errands all over KC. She's two and came home from the hospital in it.

Here is that old shot of me when I was about 17. About 1990 I think. That big old Buick is still one of my favorites out of the collection. [IMG]

Absolutely. My daughter did Rod & Custom Magazine's AmeriCruise '97 when she was 10 weeks old.
Both kids went to local shows & several Goodguys events.

I did and my kids are.
My son has been with me in my hotrods since he was just a few months old and my daughter was the same and even went to the HAMB drags in my A before she was 1.

Here we are cruising in my 32.
    image.jpeg
Wife and kids drove the A from KC to DesMoines. Kids fell asleep on the way.

My son can't get enough. Racing at HotRod Dirt Drags.

I was hooked on cars from an early age because of my dad and his club members. I hope to p*** it onto my kids and theirs by including them every chance I get.

LOL.. Brings back memories...We played county league baseball, my dad had a 55 Chevy pickup and another coach had about a 60 Dodge pickup. They would load all us boys and gear in the back a couple in the front, all packed like sardines and off we'd go sometimes 40 miles away to play ball.
