Flypa38, looks like they moved the torsion bar from down low to high. From what I know the low torsion bars did not work very well on other cars. Agajanian had that problem on his pre watson.

That could be. A few years back a friend of mine was saying he remembered when Packard went out of business and the dealerships were folding up you could buy new V8 Packard engines for cheap and a lot of them started showing up in hot rods and boats.

  5. That might have happened after Studebaker when out of business since Studebaker used Packard engines in some of their cars.

I'm pretty sure it's the other way around. The last two years of "Packards" were basically rebadged Studebakers with Studebaker engines.
"In 1957, no more Packards were built in Detroit and the Clipper disappeared as a separate brand name. Instead, a Studebaker President–based car bearing the Packard Clipper nameplate appeared on the market, but sales were slow. Available in just two body styles, Town Sedan (four-door sedan) and Country Sedan (four-door station wagon), they were powered by Studebaker's 289 cu in (4.7 l) V8 with a McCulloch supercharger, delivering the same 275 hp (205 kW) as the 1956 Clipper Custom, although at higher revolutions.
