Features Kustoms blues? I need to see some kustoms....

  1. That's a nice one. I think the Chrysler (De Soto?) headlights really suit that body nicely (like on Don Boeke's '57).

  13. Looks like it was probably a coupe turned convertible.

I think a lot of these cars from years ago fall into the just because you can doesn't mean you should category

Ugly or not I love pictures of old Kustom builds. I don't think it was "just because you can" They were forging their way through the Kustom era. They didn't have the publications and pictures that we have today to see if it was going to look all right.

Actually there were a lot more publications like one shots, quarterlies, etc. featuring customs and how to do it features then there are today. Sure, the 'net enables us to dredge up the past, but back in the day (oh how I hate that term), a lot of ink was devoted to customs.

Trends change as time passes. Traditional today is different than it was 50 years ago. Someday, I`m gonna own an ugly Custom as what some people call them. Maybe I already do.
There were publications back then, but people from all over couldn`t join in and express there opinion. For everybody to read. Thus, worried about building a car a certain style being afraid of what others might think. You just never know who has owned the cars being posted.

I assume the Trendaro, pictured above, would fall into the "ugly" category to some, but when that first hit the magazine's I drooled over it. Still one of my favourites from the era.

The pics of the Trendero were from when I owned it. They were taken at the rock n rods on Route 66 show in Bloomington Illinois about 10 yrs ago

I had the chance to buy some stude pans and I still regret it. Had nothing to put them on but that shouldn't have stopped me. Hadn't before... Lol!

  24. chpd56chev3.jpg chpd56chev.jpg View attachment 3498603 View attachment 3498603 The bottom pic is a grainy polaroid of the car I took when I saw it parked at a Milwaukee Wi. laundromat. The top pic is after the car left the Milwaukee, Wi area. Last I heard the car was still around in Illinois. Any body know of its whereabouts?

Here's a 51 Merc that was chopped by Jerry Morris and Frank Palmer did the hardtop look and the Hirohata style window frames. Also installed a fresh 429 Ford engine.
