Hot Rods Old Helmet??

I found this a while back while rummaging through an old mechanic's barn in Arizona a couple years ago. I just found it in a box and thought I'd get your input on what it's originally intended use was. Looks to be made of a thick aluminum and most likely had some sort of suspension and chin strap. Shoot!! Want to see some educated/experienced guesses!

Well I got a glass helmet that is the same shape mine is an old roller derby helmet.

But I got an idea that @gimpyshotrods is correct in his assessment.

 

That's an old baseball cup from the 1940s, you know back when men had balls...

 

rixtasan, I thing that helmet was for the safety team to clean up the mess easier after a crash. everything stayed in the bucket. Those drivers were fearless.

 

Looks like about $100 if you tag it #TROG when you try to sell it.

 

They use to call them "pudding pot" helmets.

 

Great, now I want pudding.

 

It's a headlight bucket painted yellow.

 

Here's one I got but it has a sun visor. This one is from the 40s oops and it's not made of aluminum.
