This is the exact reason I didn't mention too much about the car when I posted some pics a couple of years ago. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/a-fuel-coupes-don-montgomery-32-3w.873097/page-11 Joe didn't need a bunch of people trying to hammer him buy the car etc. It means more to him than money. I beleive it is disrespectful to even try to buy someones pride and jjoy if they do not indicate that it is for sale first. I took some of those pictures you used earlier way back in 2008 , I spent a couple of days at the shop with Joe working a rotofaze ignition which I bought there from New Zealand. and looking over the coupe discussing what it needed and learning about the story behind the car... Joe was keen to get the coupe going then and had bought the pistons and parts he needed to do it...but he wanted to do it in his own time... As I said in the other thread I wasn't about to put up more pics without Joe's permission, and he wasn't that keen on the idea.
To bring my distributor in, get the privilege to work with Joe to get it fixed,I'm sure hear some good stories and jokes and then to cover the car, the company and Joe back up again until the next person that knows stops by again isn't my way. The message here on the HAMB was Joe's idea, the story is mine that I read to Joe to make sure that he's okay with everything, his nomination to SEMA about his history was asked before, it's hard to interview someone without them knowing what it's for. Trying to get Rodders journal to take pictures and maybe a story about the car and Joe,a new website so they could sell t shirts this is all about getting the word out to help them get more business. The car is a huge advertising tool. I know how Joe makes you feel when you get to know him,he truly becomes a friend and you are always willing to protect your friends! The way I got the car I have now was asking, I can't imagine going through life waiting for everyone else to make the first move. To help get someone's pride and joy running again and maybe a chance to get behind the wheel again would be cool to me! Maybe I should wait for Joe to do it on his own time, get the car in the shop, pull the engine, rebuilt it and everything else that turns without help? No way!
A click over to the current website to see the video of Joe's run and what the shop sells is always right there, turn up the volume! SCTA legal? I knew we would have trouble when I had to ask "Is their a bellypan?" To have to take a second look and say "Oh there's the rollbar!" 170 and a half!!!!
Maybe you can post it on youtube where it doesn't require a special download and it can be seen by more.
Thanks for the idea, for sure I'll run it by Joe. I know he's proud of that run and he had told me to make sure to turn up the volume when I watch it! He said that he was a little sideways here and there but showed and explained how he steered through it and that was the 170 and a half run, one of the last,I think he would want more people to see it for sure.
Thanks for the picture, it would still make a cool retro ad in Rodders Journal today, would just have to freshen it up a little. Like where's the cent icon? Include $.25 ? Trying to get by the shop this week for a visit,to see how things are going and show Joe everyone's support!
I'm building a 31 coupe and wanted something other than a SBC in it and started looking around - ran across a 53 Merc flathead here in Taos (not exactly hot rod central) that was built by Ralph Prey from Inglewood, CA in 66 - 67 - got all the original receipts from Isky, Edelbrock, and others - including the receipt for the Roto-Faze distributor that came with the engine. I'll edit this when I get back to my shop today and include a pic.The article is from Dec 2, 1966 Drag Digest - the price on the receipt is $83.20 , dated August 18, 1964
Too Cool!!! What history we have here, and to still have Joe just a phone call away is one of the reasons for his nomination to SEMA, his dedication to this Hot Rod lifestyle we all have here! He's good with posting his video, just said make sure you turn up the volume! sorry I'm electrically challenged, why I'm here with Joe and his points distributors and will do my best getting that done. Met Ian at Joe's when he came by to pickup Joe for his club meeting, a loyal friend that wants the best for Joe also! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/l-a-hot-rods-at-the-beginning.774634/page-7#post-8775793 I feel I'm just catching up with him. He's wanted the same thing for Joe for a while. Just more momentum!
Just to put the price of the Roto-Faze distributor in my previous post in perspective, I've got another receipt for Ralph from Iskenderian for a set of Edelbrock heads - $53.62 (July 24, 64). Quality stuff cost in those days, too.
Just wanted to say Thanks to bushwhacker 57 for offering the dual coil that he has been saving, it is a special piece that will truly top off my engine! Yes quality stuff cost in these days too!
Thanks again loudbang for your support and Thank You to everyone else also, not just for Joe and John at Roto Faze but for me too! The quality of the members here have truly blown me away! Passion, I see it in all the conversations here! Knowledge, there is always several suggestions when someone asks how to get something done and they are always given with experience and without hesitation! The Kindness in the treads here, everyone just wants good for everyone else and are willing to help in any way! This is not just Local or National but International and the quality of the cars and the people behind them know no borders! Thank You
The distributor that I bought into the shop will be the one that they use to profile the cam to bring back the dual coil, also they have been reverse engineering the housing and are close to sandcasing them again. Joe was a little more convinced about the power of advertising when he got a call from Florida and the caller said he had seen them on the internet and we talked more about the car and the show and how many more people will see that they are still going strong! I think he's convinced to a new website with t-shirts, found out that Ed Roth made three pictures for Joe and Roto Faze, what cool t-shirts those would make! As far as SEMA goes no word yet. The distributor that I got from bushwacker 57 was the last part that I needed to be able to start putting things together, a very special part that will help Joe and John reproduce the dual coil distributors again too! That's what I mean about the kindness here! The history behind this part and my involvement with Joe and John and Roto Faze will make it that more special to me! Sincerely Thank You Dave
I saw it at El Mirage back in the '80's.. Awesome car!!! Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Is that decal yours too?. I would love to add that to my decal collection . I run a Roto Faze dual coil ignition in my '46 Chevy Gasser Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Could I call Joe? I have a model 822 and have some questions on the type of points, condenser, caps and rotors to use
Wow ! This is amazing. How could I have missed this piece of unbelievable history. To say I am stunned is a huge understatement. The craftsmanship and purpose is beautiful. I am still stunned. LMD
Scott I'm glad you didn't wait for me,just talked to John and he said you had called. I know that they will help. We talked about the Roadster Show and where we would have to park the car because it would be brought in on a trailer it would be in the swap meet area so the decision was to wait until January for the GNRS and it should be in with all the other SCTA cars. After 20+ years the wheels are a little harder to roll than I thought they would be! John did say that they had gone to El Mirage and had come home with a little spark on getting the car running again and will still be trying to get the car back into the shop!
Just wondering if there is anything new to report on the quest of Joe getting his car back and running once again??? Any updates?
