Porsche Guards Red and India Red are the same colors (same codes). It'll make your eyes water, but so will the red that's on Vipers. That being said, I lived through the 80's and 90's and will probably never own another red vehicle. All reds got to be known as "Resale Red" back then.

Radiance II candy Wineberry over a silver base with blue pearl in the clear. But then again, I am kind of biased in what I think is a perfect red!! :)

It's going to be a weird combination of a Chassis Research TE448 with a Model T roadster stuck on the back.

For the purposes of this thread, it's probably just best to think of a T-bucket.

"Resale Red".............that way if you don't like it, you can send it down the road!

Is there no other reason to paint a car red?

There are some beautiful cars here. It's easy to see why it's the most popular favorite color.

I won't shy away from red just because it's the most popular color. I understand the rebel-mentality of painting a car a different color than the all the other red cars parked around us. But if you think about it, if I paint mine "Resale Red," I'm rebelling against rebellion. That makes me twice the rebel! All you lesser rebels are the same because you're all trying to be different. I'm such a rebel that I rebel against rebellion by conforming.

    My head hurts.

I really appreciate all the great suggestions so far. Please keep them coming.

This is my pick. Ten coats of candy apple red over five coats of gold flake. Won't be easy to match though. :D

I've painted quite a few reds and my favorite non metallic red has been a GM color Dynasty Red from a 1975 Cadillac Eldorado. Not orangey or lipstick red, easy on the eyes and classy looking.

I'd agree with go to the dealerships and check out the reds on the new rigs and especially on trucks. Then go back past at night and see which one also pops under the lights at night. We did that on the 48 in the early 60's when I painted it Porsche Indiana red. Not as true a red as Guards red though.

Kind of like asking what is the perfect looking woman. I dislike the loud, blistery looking reds, abusive and outlandish to the senses. But its all about how its used and context. Classy or flashy. :)

Boyd's red....especially if you two tone it with India ivory white...it really pops....

  16. In the late 80s I convinced dad to paint a 57 we were building to sell in "resale red". Damn thing took forever to sell and then the guys check bounced. Dad still will not let me live that one down nor paint anything of his RED!

My roadster is Boyd's Red which supposedly is straight red toner and claimed to be the reddest red there is. I looked at a lot of reds before picking this one. I have been searching for a source of this paint for some minor touch-up and have found two posts claiming that Dupont makes it. I've seen two different paint codes, one is 754017 and the other is BC001. Both named Boyd's Red. As mentioned elsewhere in this thread, photos on the internet do not show the true color and my car seems to be a lot redder out in the sun than it is in the attached studio shot. BLOWN_1.jpg

I have painted cars 1994 Honda Milano red. My opinion its the best red you can get. When a car painted Porsche red would park next to me their car looked orange.

I think red ought to be red! Not lipstick red or maroon or red with black just red. I believe almost any Ferrari red will do!

Note: The ANSWER / answers, All start off with I--- i like ---i think---
It is ALL subject to the one EACH person likes, so ,us/me/or we, telling you WHAT is the
-----> WHAT IS THE PERFECT RED PAINT COLOR?<----
is probably just a *exercise in semantics* each of us, (love is in the EYE of the beholder)
see's and likes what we perceive to be the ONE we like.
AND so for me it is DIFFERENT for different applications, but just so i can show a picture of a sampling of paint done in the 90's here---->GM- BLACK/Viper RED/Ford PROBE YELLOW----

I used to paint a lot of cars and "resale red" was actually GM paint code RR (Resale Red) Matador Red (brighter than the old paint chip off the internet, more like the elky I stole off the web below. I painted and sold two '68 396 chevelles that color and the shade lived up to its name.

There is none lol there's a lot of red cars on here but not one metal flake paint job I'm disappointed and they all look pretty much the same red except for a few but if I had to pick a red it would be the old school candy apple red with gold flake lol

True, but now I (or we) can take a look at some reds that we may not have known about before. I can decide if I like them as much as another red. It also gives an idea which reds are popular, if several people mention the same ones.
I don't have to take a poll and get everyone's approval before making a decision, but sometimes other people have better ideas than I do, and I like to steal them.
    Mu ha ha ha!
