I'm glad you guys like the story!
Pete, that's a neat old Buick. These pioneer cars and the stories of the men who created them fascinates me.
Koolkemp, Synchronicity could have been in play here. (I had to look that one up)
Maybe I do need to buy a lottery ticket?
Shoebox: this guy picks a very large area, he is always on the lookout for cool old stuff. The engine and the back half of the frame was used as a powerplant on a farm. He tried really hard to track down the engine, but to no avail.
So you want some pics? OK, I took several. Good thing I downloaded them to my computer yesterday, my phone crashed last night and everything on it disappeared.

Here is the truck I bought:

Almost all Sweptline crew cabs were shortbeds, as was this one, powered by the leaning tower of power 225. My plans are to make it into a resto-mod to haul my camper on cross country trips. It'll get an 8' bed, dana 80 dually rear end, 12 valve cummins, a nice comfy seat, lots of sound deadener, air and power windows. My inspiration:

He had some cool stuff there. I bought this 1912 Cadillac engine. The car the changed the world, and made every car built before it obsolete with the first ever electric starter.

What's the story on this ? Looks like a truck chassis.
Do you think it's a Wisconsin engine?

That's a Peirce Arrow 2 ton truck engine and part of the frame. I think it had been used as a farm power plant. I'm trying to buy it off him.

My Dad was friends with Lenard Davis, who worked at the Ford Museum & helped with getting the cars for the movie. Some of the movie was shot in Calif.
There is a scene with a salesman showing up on a farm to demonstrate the "new " 1909 T to a Farmer.
That was my Dad's '09, and our friend Bill Collier was driving. I think in that same scene in the background, the '05 Buick can be seen going down the road, with my uncle at the wheel.
The Buick has been in the family since 1946. The '09 T got sold to Harras in 1965

  10. So (without checking) it probably is a Wisconsin Tee head motor?

Our unit had one of those Dodge's in 'Nam, 68-69.Was parked at the end of our capped revetments when a mortar went off on top off the revet. Punched a LOT of holes in the Dodge, but no broken glass. One of my Crew Chiefs painted a Purple Heart on the lower left front fender. Dodge built "Tuff Trucks".

Wonderful story. Most us would have just looked at those parts and kept going.

My uncle (by marriage) is the grandson of Charles Kettering, inventor of said electric starter. He was also co-founder of Dayton Engineering Laboratories Company (DELCO).

You found some great stuff! I'm really glad your Maytag is being restored with authentic parts. Those Harrah's people would just slap anything together. ;)

    Peter,
First it was good seeing you at Bakersfield. My bud Bob bought the brass windshield parts from you. 2ndly, I as a kid toured with your dad and mom on the historic Reno tours. I think if memory serves your uncle was there as well. Those were some fine tours never to be repeated. Sadly most of the participants are no longer with us. My 1st was when I was 12.

    just sayin'

I can't remember if he said it was a 60 or 61. I think he said it has a 4:30 in it. And that it is a survivor.

I am not that familiar with Pierce Arrow Trucks but I thought they made their own engine in Buffalo New York? Are you saying that Wisconsin made the truck engines for Pierce Arrow?

Nice story. Its always fun to vintage tin hunting. So you got the plug. But what are you going to do with the rest of the Maytag parts? Youd obviously never be able to find enough to build another car. Maybe make the frame and an axle into a trailer to pull behind your complete one?

Such a cool story, it's so cool that you got the parts you needed. Outstanding find!!! I really think you should go and buy a lottery ticket as well.

Just goes to show everyone once again that no matter how rare, or obsolete something is. There is probably someone out there that has a part or car tucked away in their basement, field, garage.

I'm not well versed in the brass era cars but it's such awesome part of history and how many people had their hands in what would later become one of the greatest thing on 4 wheels!

Jeez, I still get excited when I find Model A parts!
Great story, no matter how you spell it.
I have a friend who's into the brass era stuff, and am blown away when he's been out "shopping" and invites me over to see his latest purchases.
Great stuff- have fun with it.

  26. Thanks for a great story, and pictures. Did you notice that the 33 Dodge truck started life as a woodie. I used to own one, but let it get away. They are VERY rare. Ron...

Mr.and Mrs. Davis drove the 32 phaeton to California to work on the production and the wind sail runner was a scene in the movie.
