I just drug a new project home and so far, am very happy with what I have.
I do however, have a few questions that I hope someone can help me with.
1.) Can anyone help me decode the numbers on the data plate ?

    Engine Pad: 5762033769
    P***enger Frame Rail: *5762033769*

    Data Plate:
    Style: 57-623SD7
    Body: F W 7 6 8
    Trim No: 53 U
    Paint: 94 - 7
    Top: 7

    ACC: E

2.) I was told this car was upgraded "optioned" with the 2x4 carb setup but I have no way to verify this. The original #'s matching engine is still in the car, but the intake and carbs are missing.

3.) This car currently has a Black Vinyl Top. Was this an original option ?

4.) Where can find a good Shop / Service Manual ?

5.) What are a few good sources for parts (57 Caddy) ?
Gas Tank, Lines, Brakes, Brake Booster & Master Cylinder, Other under hood parts, Center Caps,

6.) If I can get the motor "unstuck" I'll have it rebuilt, otherwise, I need to find a replacement 365 or 390 near the Dallas area.

Any ideas where to source one besides EB or CL ? (I'm already looking on those sites)

Thanks for any information in advance !

Congratulations on your Cadillac! I drove a Dusty Rose '57 Coupe DeVille from 1984-1992. They are comfortable and nice riding cars, with more power than you'd think for nearly 5,000 lbs (mine weighed 4,980 on grain scales without me in it, but don't know how much gas was in the tank at the time). I love the sound of the engine on the 2-3 shift with the Hydramatic!

  5. The serial number is located on the lubrication plate, located on the left door pillar, according to various threads online. Click on the link provided.

Beautiful car! Looks like a great project.

If you need anything, Honest John will have it. And he's close. You should drive over there and check out his place. It's Mecca for Cadillac lovers.

    He's very pricey, but hey - it's a Caddy. ;)

I've owned 3 of these '57 Eldorados and I can tell you the build quality and engine reliability are some of the best around.

SOAK, SOAK, SOAK that engine before forcing it to turn over. Marvel Mystery oil. Soak and let sit for a week. Soak again and let it sit a week. Then soak and turn over by hand VERY carefully. It might save you a rebuild.

I'd personally just buy a cheap stock 4bbl manifold and carb. And when you find the 2x4s within your budget then pull the trigger. They aren't cheap, but are great reliable setups.

You'll tank any value with the wrong engine. Don't remove that engine.

Pretty sure that the 1957 Eldorado Seville came with the 4x2 carb set as Standard equipment.

You would think, right Tony? I thought that too when I bought my first one.

In 1956 Cadillac had it standard on the Eldo. For 1957, you could get either one. Although most people choose the 2x4. It was a no-charge option. It's pretty rare to see a single now-a-days. I'm not sure of the reasoning behind it, but apparently some people wanted the single.

The other strange option is the Gold anodized eggcrate up front. Some owners wanted this and some didn't. I believe that was a charge though. Gold or standard Clear anodized.

Great looking cars. Great color combinations too. Cadillac Blue is a color that you need to see in person. Photos don't do it justice. My '57 is Copper, but it looks like it's got a lot of pink in it. It's got "copper" colored leather as well. You should be able to coax a lot of shine out of yours. Great cars!

Spit shine that car, get it up to driving standards and enjoy it. Perfect cars are overrated. There is no shame in a worn original. If you need help from other Eldorado owners join www.EldoForum.com. There are a lot of guys who keep these cars on the road and they're glad to help.

Thanks Hyfire. Learn something every day.
What about 1958 Eldo? An option that year too. Thanks for the info.

Tony, '58 switched to Tri-Power. I don't know if it was standard on the '58 Eldo. My '58 Brougham had Tri-Power standard, but I don't know about the Biarritz & Seville?

Mike, your car's condition is better than mine. A good detailing will go a long way. Your Seville looks like a much better preserved car. Also, convertibles are cool, but the reverse leaning Seville roof with those fins look amazing in person. I'm a coupe guy myself. Can't wait to see your progress! Especially on getting it running.

Remember your rear bumpers and wheels are cast aluminum so be delicate. Use S-20 by Spartan Chemicals to detail the engine compartment and inner doors. It's very sensitive for light de-greasing and cleaning on original cars. Won't hurt factory finishes.

Probably may favorite of all Cadillacs of any year. On sat by a commercial laundry in Waco in the early 70's that I drove by and drooled over many times even though even then it needed a full restoration.

A few years ago my buddy pulled one out of a field, it had a single 4 barrel.
But in the trunk below all the trash and garbage was the 2-4 intake and carb set up.
No proof that it was original to the car but it was a correct fit to the car.

I wonder if the previous owner had trouble keeping the dual carbs synched so he had a single carb set up indtalled.

Wow that is a neat car! So, the tail lights are below fins, and in bumper is revers lights and exhaust?

  25. In the mid 1970's I took a 57 Seville for a road test from a car yard in the southern Sydney NSW suburb of Sylvania, it was a pink metallic with green upholstery, twin 4 setup with a very nice RHD conversion .........being young & stupid with no idea about Cadillacs I had never seen a Cadillac with a strange looking almost early Corvette rear end...............lol.........nah..........this couldn't be right I thought...........the car drove quite well, everthing worked, windows, seats, Autronic eye, but I just couldn't get over that weird rear fender treatment so I let it p***................I'm not young any more but still stupid...............just one more thing I wish I could've done differently..............lol............Andy Douglas

Found the answer to my question about whether or not it came with dual quads or not.

Check out the (batwing logo) on the hood / engine insulator pad.

Leather seats are still in pretty good shape as well as the headliner.

I found a dual carb intake for a 390 and now I need to source a couple of carbs.

Still trying to get the engine freed up - still soaking it....

    Cheers,

If you end up still needing a motor and/or trans PM me. My dad has a '57 365/trans complete as I mentioned in your other post.
