I've got a traditional hot rod planned for my 29 Oakland 3window, first things first is that I can't have those wood spoke knock off type wheels and axels. I don't really want to dick with adapter plates or what have you so the easiest way to fix this ( or so I think) and to have some cooler wheels would be by using the front and rear 5 lug axels out of a 35ish Chevy Coupe. The front Chevy axel appears to have the same drop as the stock set up and same width... Are there any major issues that you fellas might think I may run into before I purchase the "new" front and rear??? Thanks all!!! Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
If the track width is similar probably ok. The Oakland (later became Pontiac i think) I assume has parallel semi elliptical springs so the critical issue is finding an axle with the same spring center to center dimensions.
The Chevy axles will likely fit fairly close, tape measure should tell you. But what about the brakes? Chevy had mechanical brakes in the mid 30's, didn't they? Also thought they had 6 lug wheels?
Great that's what I was thinking but was t sure... I've seen them in 5 and 6, I may be off on the year [emoji848][emoji848][emoji848] and yes the ones Im looking at are mechanical, thanks for the response. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Going with a straight 6 of some fashion, maybe a Hudson 308 the hood sides are really nice on the 29 Oakland and I like to be different at the car shows [emoji41] if I were to step away from the 6 for an 8 I'd put a 59 Pontiac in it. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
