I got it lined up with the holes and it's in a good place. Trying to decide if I use as many of the old bolts as I have or just replace them. I also got the new pressure regulator. It's a bit too new for my tastes, so I'd like to hide it. Any ideas appreciated!!! Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I'd replace with stainless bolts. On my 34, I ran the pump, filter and regulator along the frame rail near the tank. You rarely need to change adjustment.
Dang. O.K. Bed coming back off...found a mounting spot. Need a couple more fittings. At least it will be hidden and the engine bay will look cleaner...
I also found and took picture of the serial number on the frame rail (left, near rear wheel) just so I have it. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Yup. Two places. One just forward of the cowl on the driver's side, and the other on the top of the frame under the bed. Not sure if it's the same for cars. This is for trucks... I had a hell of a time getting DMV to let me use my black plates. They wanted the VIN, but said that the "1" in the VIN (883I68) was an "I"...what idiots. Don't they know there was no "1", and that a cap I was used for the number 1??? Like a Roman numeral???
So I posted a picture of a bus that one of my neighbors owns...it was pulled. Somebody must have thought it was a joke. Here's the bus. I love the look and wish I had a place to store it. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Since I replaced all the wiring, it only made sense to pull all the ignition wiring and replace that as well. The cap showed bad deterioration of the contacts, and the plug wires were stiff and brittle. Pulled the dizzy to send off to Bubba for reconditioning. Sending him the coil to test as well. I'll order new inner/outer cap rotor and wires to finish it off. This will likely take longer than I'd like, but I think it's the right thing to do Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
When you have Bubba replace the rotor and cap, have him install '42 parts. They are easier to use than the '48 style cap you currently have.
Funny, we were staying in downtown Petaluma all last week visiting family. We went on quite a few walks around town. I must have passed that bus 3-4 times! Small world! I'm sure we must've walked by your place a few times. Great build by the way. I've been following along for quite a while.
Ha! That's funny. We're a half block up the street from where the bus parks across from the old school. If you're in the area again, let me know...
I'll be sure to do that next time! We come to town about 1-2 times a year. We have family over on A street between Keller and Liberty. Just a stones throw away!
Here's a couple of shots of the dizzy and the shitty cap I removed. Can't believe the thing actually ran Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Yeah. Last variable is carburetion. I hope to send out my 97's soon Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Finally got my distributor back from Bubba's. Looks great! Got it back on last night. Hope to have it all back together and running this weekend. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
All back together. Crab style cap would have made this easier, but I like this look Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Hmmm. So I drove the truck to the swap meet on Sunday...early. The lights worked when I tested them before, but they didn't work for the drive. Turns out the 20A fuse under the dash was blown (scratching head). Not sure why. Any ideas? All new wiring. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
You have a three brush generator on there Jeff, you might be over charging. What does your amp gauge say?
Yup. I do have a 3 brush. Ammeter shows moderate charge when running, slight discharge when idling. Seems pretty normal. I can put an ammeter on it to see what it's actually putting out. Thanks, Nobey.
Didn't get a meter on it yet, but when I drove it this weekend I noticed that the fuel gauge would read correct at idle, but went up past full at speed...bad cut out? Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
The other thing overcharging will do is melt your coil. Check the cut out and the third brush adjustment. Hope all goes well Jeff....
Sure as hell don't want that. Skip just rebuilt it. What is this third brush adjustment you speak of? Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
