This photo looks to have been taken during McElreath's first Indianapolis attempt in 1962 where he was the Rookie of the Year. I believe it was just a year earlier when he and fellow Dizz Wilson teammate Johnny Rutherford had left the IMCA Little 500 race (which Jim won) and drove to Indy to see the 500 for the first time. Arriving very late and with nowhere to stay they ended up sleeping on picnic tables in nearby Leonard Park in the town of Speedway. The story goes that they even slept underneath the tables at one point when a light rain started.

Rootie, would this by any chance be the Meyer Drake supercharged Offy that later became the Belanger car?
    Thanks as always.

Thank you. When I heard Jim had passed I was thinking he was one of Dizz's drivers but wasn't sure.

Yes, it is the 1962 car he won the ROY with.

I'm not really 100% certain but given the drum brakes I think it is the Hart Fullerton KK4000 circa 1951. I don't know it's later history.

Gee, guys, usually it's sea shells and drift wood that washes up on the beach.
