Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by Cyclone Kevin, May 20, 2016.

  1. I did a moon shine style run down to grandpas house yesterday. Spent the day with him and we went over to the early ford store and picked up the last few things. I'm finishing up the front end now. I will send you some pictures. I'm looking forward to May 20th. Grandpa put it down on his calendar for a day a el mirage. Get that ol girl done so we can tear up the dry lakes with doc and grandpa.

    Thank you Jerry,
It's been a long build, a bunch of things to still do.... but I hope to have Doc out there on the Lakes 70 years after that pic was taken right behind the Bob Rufi built SCTA TIMING STAND.

May 25th 1947 was the largest Lakes meet ever I believe. Nearly 300 entrants, don't know how they pulled that off, it must have been a sight to see!!! :).

Ya know, that Cyclone Roadster that you built gets so many compliments, ya did a great job on it.
Too bad we couldn't have that out on the Lakes as well.

Here we go...I seem to recall you looking for a trailer for the race on the beach. I think you should just fine a good used one and buy the dam thing......They really don't cost that much if you shop around. Or you could just build one.

IMG_1118.PNG You're talking about this trailer which you helped cinch 64b down on....This belongs to a fellow Tromper Member. I'm always welcome to borrow it, who knows maybe we'll grab it again.

I think that you've seen my back yard ;) :) :) :). (Look down that driveway in that pic, it's a little clearer now as the O/T Bird, is a driver again, the 65 Falcon is now where Glenn's was and Glenn's 30 AV8 Coupe is now in his driveway with it brakes working).

Now if I bought another, (since my Kool little "Triple Nickel" was lent out and stolen several years back),
Not too keen on replacing it.....
I guess you have enough space in that Kool Old Ford Dealership building, could I store it in Nebraska????? :).

Well you would be more than welcome to store it at my shop, but hell you might as well just use my trailer than do that....You sure are welcome to use it any time you want. It is even an enclosed trailer. I loan it out a lot more than I use it. Sure works good for swapmeet junk though as I don't have to worry about my **** blowing out of the back of the truck.

    Dennis,
Wish we lived a whole lot closer to each other cuz, then that enclosed trailer would be much more tempting, but of course I'd step up for the maintaining of it. ;).
Thanks for looking out for me :D.
We'll get that "Waske Effect" 265B Roadster out there, lt's been a long 70 years :D:D;)!!!

So been looking over this thread, on May 20th it will be a year to the day that I heard from Clem's son "Doc". It's been quite a year, but I can't believe that a year to the day and nearly 70 years after the original picture that's brought me here to point of nearly having Clem's "Smokie" back on the "Tiera Firma".

So last year, we didn't even have Clem's Gal as a car., within months she was on wheels... body on, engine mounted and fired up, then came reality. Death of a step mom, then T-W, and so many other things that are basically life changing events.

So we're at the wire, I've gotta get these last things done....so hopefully we'll be out on the lake!!!!!!
Still trying to get "Doc" to come on out??????
Hopefully you guys can help me talk him into it....
    Its history after all!!!!!!!

Been working on the W.E. it seems like I go one step forward and two steps backwards. Made a bracket, took a better part of the day. ;).

So now I had to put the radiator in the 32 (64b)
after having its deal over at T-W. last October. it's funny, but to keep it running I made sure that it had water running through it every time we fired it up.

So back to the Waske, I'll be working on it all week.
It's getting close, but I just want it there so it will be there with Elmer's PRC Dry Lakes recreation. ;).

Very cool piece of History, Cyclone. And I especially enjoyed your ****ogy. So true. A few months ago, we decided to attend El Mirage this May. Just before I called you, paintslinger805, and 383deuce, Joyce reminded me of a graduation we HAD to show up for. I was pissed. For a two-day event, we have to wait until Nov. Man, I was so ready to head west again, so ready to stretch our legs and put more miles on the roadster and sample some of that cool seafood available only there. We are coming out but I just don't know exactly when. We will keep you guys posted and get together someway, somehow. Tell Sharon hello, and be talking to all of you right here on the HAMB. Gary and Joyce

So worked on Clem's Gal all day, but had a funeral intermission for Don Zable- "Hot Rod legend". It was a great service. IMG_1362.JPG IMG_1341.JPG IMG_1340.JPG IMG_1339.JPG IMG_1338.JPG
Drove the 34 out in good old Downtown L. A. Traffic. It was hot today....... that car hates the heat...

Back to the W.E. so there always a bunch of last minute thrash stuff to do and it still is nowhere being done, but drivable it may ;).!!!

Going to meet a Bruce and Elmer out there. I think that Bruce as well had a helluva day. ;).
Hopefully we'll have some pix for ya.....

Funny that you should ask, Doc called us while we were on the Lakebed, I was giving Elmer a ride in the W.E. as the call came in. Doc was under the weather, but said he was "Stoked!" IMG_1382.JPG

    Bruce,
It was a great day! Last year we were giving ourselves goals, We were there looking at the cars,
Listening to Elmer, and seeing his face light up each time a car ran. We both said that this was the place that these cars should 1st be driven.
I saw yours drive, you had Elmer in it, he had a great at***ude and you were driving for more than 30 secs, ;).
Clem's was nowhere near ready to really drive and I would've settled for pix on the lake, But we both drove em and we achieved that goal.
It was great having Oscar, Elmer, and your whole
    family being there.
Thanks for making it a great event!!!!!

Well, guys, you two did it! What I wouldn't give to have been there. These photos are great, gives me that feeling of being there, but oh I wish we could have seen you two doing your thing after working your bods to the bone to be there. I am really proud of both you boys. DAMN PROUD! Like Frank Sinatra's song, you two did it your way. Just plain cool. Gary and Joyce
