Someone my have to take my hand and show me.......If it is the exhaust setting on the shelf I hope you have some extensions on the collectors.
I had some 3 or 4 foot pipes on the headers on my 383 Charger and the car would run 102 mph consistently.....I had read of the trick of painting a the pipe and cutting it off at the point the paint stopped burning off.
Well The way the cross member was on the car the pipe would have to have a dog leg bend in it and just happen to have some pipes 9 inches long that I could just bolt up.
So I installed the short collector pipes and the car picked up to 105 mph.
That was the only thing that I changed.
They say around 16 to 18 inches is the sweet spot.

It's nothing to do with the exhaust on the shelf. However we were hoping to have some kind of extensions on the headers before Saturday. Hasn't happened yet. He's been busy with the lettering on the junk.
A old timer at work was telling me about the paint trick the other day. We might give it a try. The headers on this thing are kinda let's say jankey. The collectors point toward the center of the car. Not straight. We will have to get some pie cuts on or pick up some pre bent tubes and make it work. I can't speak for him but I'd feel better with some longer pipes on it

I hope that everyone has a great weekend...we are only 7 weekends from the Meltdown Drags.

How about a little caption contest for this picture...

Any of you have plans or some pics of wheelie bars? I made some changes on my little model a and may want a set. I have some old leaf springs and we just got a new CNC plasma at work [emoji3]

I checked his out. But I have to come off the rearend, I don't have any frame really past the rearend. It may not even wheelie, but I would sure hate to find out and oil the track with my oil pan

  21. To make them look right you need to do your research first. When I am looking for reference material, I often refer to pictures taken from that era. Vintage pics could be found in many places, including '66 and earlier magazines, the awesome website of George Klass ( http://www.georgeklass.net/index.html )and of course reference the '66 NHRA rulebook. If you see them in a picture taken in 1966 or earlier, you know you are doing it right! ;)

  22. Go farther into his thread he built a different set later. Here are some pictures I have of his. My wheelie bars are just like them. The flat arched pieces are just 1/4" aluminum then the top bar is Chromoly. The only trick is the wheel and top bar location. Where the top bar attaches needs to be 1" ahead of the center of the wheel for them to work good. Pretty easy to make I built mine if u need any pointers let me know. 20141031_144217.jpg 20141031_144344.jpg

So those new front coils that Alex got me turned out to be so tall/heavier rate, that they raised the front of the car about 5 inches.....It made for a really cool,mid-60's Superstock vibe with the front in the air a bit,but caused one major problem:The shocks were a couple inches too short to bolt up.[emoji53]
Out comes the spring compressor again, time to nut-up and squish these death traps down so I can cut a cool off of em and get things right again.
After a couple of hours,a couple of coffees, and a couple more near death experiences with my spring compressor, the coils are cut,the springs are back in the car,and it sits nice and level with about a 3" gap between top of tire and fender lip.
Also finished up the install on the traction bars, and threw the new carbs on there.
Check out the new and improved stance:

This is from the bottom of my "to do list" taped to the windshield.
I'm so glad the fastback is going to have parallel leafs and an Ford I-beam axle under the front....I never wanna see another coil spring as long as I live.[emoji15]

On the one yard line with our shifter issues,too....Turns out my Dad had installed a piece of tin under the carpet to fill a bit of where the floor was cut for the other shifter, and that, and a self-tapping screw that was securing it,were right in the way of 3rd gear.
    Problem solved.
    One step closer to testing.:)

Sorry it was such a sideshow last year Pat...Once things started going wrong (which was pretty much immediately..lol),all my "hangin out" time turned into "fixing broke-ass shit" time.
This year we should have all the bugs out before we get to the event, and we should be able to spend a lot more time hanging out.
Plus,I need a rematch with that badass Fairlane of yours!I think I had ya for the first 2-1/2 feet![emoji23]

Got some carb studs from my guy....but only half as many as I needed were in stock.
Looks like I'm gonna be waiting a couple of days to make any test passes with the car...Grrrr....
