    It's a AFM-Fiat circa 1950.

  4. An ice cream delivery truck in Christchurch, New Zealand in about 1960. I have personal memories of this truck as my family had a shop which sold this ice cream. They only had the one of these I think. The company moved out of the factory at 300 Manchester St when they were taken over by a bigger national company. The next building on the site was the local GM Holden dealership. They relocated to another site in the 1990s and the building was used for various purposes. It was severely damaged in the earthquake of 22 Feb 2011 and was demolished. The site is presently vacant. More - www.facebook.com/groups/642607519153649/permalink/1364209456993448/

The first time I saw this, framed and on the wall of a nursing home/rehabilitation center. I stopped in my tracks to observe it. Several others similar to it also around. I've often wondered the memories of the older folks went they stared at these days of old.

I don't know if this is the Keck roadster or not but it might be as there were only a couple of Kurtis 500A's that had Offy engines. I never noticed the oil lines before because a bubble added to the bodywork covered up the oil line engine connection which stuck out because the engine was tilted. In your photo the "gland" assembly is visible.

Here's a couple of shots of interest. In the first, the fellow in the shop apron looks, to me, like Herb Porter and the fellow in the print shirt looks, to me, like Jim Travers. Not sure who the fellow on his left, in the second shot, is but he looks familiar.

I have seen and learned more of old Oregon than a lot who live there now. Funny thing is, I've never stepped a foot in the state.
Great job Maggie and the many others. Keep postin'! Thank you.

    Beulah May Needham "Boots" Taylor.

Picture is from the cover of "Los talleres de la vida" (The Workshops of Life) by Ricardo Elizondo

While the book is a fictionalized account of life in Northern Mexico in the mid-20th century, it seems Taylor spent little time, if any, in Mexico

AFM stands for Alex Falkenhausen Motorenbau, but it seems difficult to find information on any "AFM-Fiat".
The driver was Petermax Müller and there the mystery started to unwind.
The car has nothing to do with AFM nor Fiat. (must be a mistake in the photo reference of above archieve)
It is a lightweight special based on VW motor and base plate (thus the hub caps - I should have followed my instinct in the first place...)
1100cc, obviously designed and built by Mr. Müller himself. He set some class records in 1949-50 with this very car.

As I remember it Travers stayed in California to work on the new Kurtis car while Frank Coon was sent to Italy to help finish the Ferrari that Howard Keck wanted to race.

Your photo shows the first fuel injection setup on the Vukovich car. Note the tubes (or maybe molded hoses) that connect to the aluminum tubes sticking out through the bodywork. By 1953 those holes in the body were still visible but they were closed off. This was apparently when Stu Hilborn and Jim Travers had started using velocity stacks although this was kept secret from everyone else.

It's too bad there's no steering box showing in the photos because that turned out to be the whole story in 1952.

Here's a couple of shots showing the injector hose and steering box.

It's hard to see in the photo but I believe either a roll pin or allen screw broke on the pitman arm mounting which caused Vukovich to lose the steering in 1952. I can't remember the manufacturer of the original steering box but by 1953 a Conze unit was in place.

Actually, it irritates me no end, but it was taken in the '70s when those cars were too expensive to feed, such a waste. The whole gas-crunch was a fraud.

That '57 Plymouth, about halfway down the second stack from the left, looks about the same condition as mine, lol.
