Stumbled across this article that Hot Rod did on a BC car i have seen a couple times at different events. Here's a couple pics i have snapped of the car. Think he nailed the build on this car. First time i saw it in person i drooled all over it! This car was found 45 minutes away from me!! Damn if only... ha ha enjoy the read. http://www.hotrod.com/articles/barn-find-1932-ford-roadster-becomes-1940s-hot-rod-perfect-patina/
I'm not impressed at all with the whole "patina" thing whether real , realistic or faked. I think I would be a whole lot more impressed had this car come out of the barn as it sits and was made driveable, but even then... Different strokes as they say.
Looks great to me, I remember seeing the barn photos here on the HAMB or some were a few years ago. Thanks for posting the update. Bob
I likem as found or shiney both have ambience all their own. Nothing like time capsules...My one and only critique would be the front license plate seems way more patinally advanced and stands out...No doubt when he found it it had perfectly matching non year specific plates and we all know the rules on that BS.
Not to put a harmonic damper on this thread but I believe that only the body was found in a barn near Merritt. However I could be wrong about that.
I believe you are right. Terry from Canadian Hot Rods Magazine did an article on the car a while back if I remember correctly. At the end of the day I find it kinda funny all the opinions on the car. The car is what it is. A great example of a 40's hot rod. Who cares what's what or when it was built etc. It's just a bitchin hot rod. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I can tell you from first hand experience, having spent many hours driving with Dave York right behind me in his '32. There may have been a time when he was in the lead. But that car ain't no show car antique. He drives it to work at times, with the side curtains in the winter. He drives it everywhere and has a ball. And for sure, he doesn't give a shit about what someone on the HAMB thinks about how he should have built his car.
Thats my Kind of Car Guy if you don't like somebody's Car & ask them when are you going to Finnish it. Tell them to Go and sit on a Tack for about an Hour or Tell them to Build one Them self's Just my 3.5 cents Live Learn & Die a Fool
Drop the headlight bar in my opinion. But really cool car. I'm not sure what it is, but a toasty traditional hot rod does it for me...... Sent from my SM-N910G using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Since that photo shoot he did change the headlight mounts to something more conventional, a reworked model A headlight bar.
That car just has the attitude. The great thing is that if he ever gets tired of the patina look he can tear it down and slick it out to look like "it looked like back when" without changing a thing except painting it.
That car oozes character....tells a story. I have several cars with original henry paint and every time i take one to a show they walk past the yellow one, red one, purple one, blue one... and end up gathered around where i parked wondering where it came from, the crinkled fender, scratch down the side , worn upholstery and cracked glass. Who? How? When? ....the imagination runs wild. They only original once..... but you can paint them a million times.
