    One of the two coilover roadsters that Watson built for the 1961 500. Rodger Ward drove one and Johnny Boyd the other. This might be the Boyd car because that kind of looks like Chickie Hirashima standing in the background at the workbench. These were the lightest roadsters that Watson ever built and he saved weight everywhere he could. Getting rid of the torsion bars saved a lot. And the frames themselves were made from 1-1/4" diameter tubing; they even look skinny in the photo. If this is the Boyd car it ended up finishing 2nd the next year rebuilt with torsion bars and Len Sutton driving.

    Shakey Jake we called em. Used a lot of oil too, usually got swapped for a Continental. Lippy
