Mine was supposed to be iron lunged too, but I couldn't pass up the deal on those stg 2 heads. Now I've got to detune it so I don't destroy it. Just have a halo girdle on the mains. Gonna try and bring it down about 80 hp, I need this thing to live a while. It made 626 with a 750 cfm carb on it, thinking of going that route. I just want to get it together and come have some fun with you guys. This build was fun but these damn buicks are expensive. Gathered parts for 11 years....

I guess I might head up to Tucson tonight and see how my car is running...it was kind of slow when I ran it there last month, hope nothing is wrong with it.

My wife got us a hotel room for the Meltdown, so we'll be there...

After a few gremlins that decided to come out when I rolled into the tech tent. I got to make two passes last night. Way better than a couple weeks ago. There is a lot more in it. Having some electrical issues still. It may be time to ditch the CHEAP ASS HEI distributor. Looking into that. Going to try and recurve it. It acts like it's advancing to soon.

One question this morning, with the key off should the car have power to the i terminal on the starter relay? I don't think it should. Only when cranking right?

Anyways got home at about 2am. Time to go unload and spend some time with the ol lady.

    Stupid race cars........

The I terminal should only be powered when the engine is cranking. The ballast resistor bypass circuit.

Good to hear things are going better! you still have a month.

get an old Dual Point distributor in there, and then play with the advance curve till it works right. That's what I have...

Thanks Squirrel! So perhaps the new starter relay is bad? And sending power across while the key is off. I'll slide over to the parts house and get a new one.

No it is back feeding from somewhere else.
Unplug the wire from the starter relay and see if you still have voltage at the wire.

If you don't have a ballast resistor, you should not have that I terminal connected to anything...right? been a while since I worked on a Ford, though

The I terminal would go from the starter relay to the + side of the coil and only have voltage when cranking.
It get the voltage from the relay when it is closed.

Anyways...yeah, I ran an eleven last night, which is a bit slow. started another pass, noticed that it was not making boost, so I let off and decided I need to fix something. My wife mentioned something about throttle opening all the way, of course I didn't look at that at the time, just packed up and went home. Looked at the throttle linkage this morning, sure enough, it was opening the carbs about half way. doh. Playing around with it, I think there's a loose clamp bolt on the lever that attaches to the pedal, where it goes through the firewall. The problem with blown big blocks in compact cars is that you can't actually see or reach that bolt when the engine is in the car.

    I'll get it figured out.
