I've already posted these, but I'm looking for some help either finding the car or any information, my grandpa drove it at Martin 131 and then sold it to a Ron mays sometime in 1972 in what my family thinks is Osceola Indiana, and I'm trying to figure out what happened to it after he sold the Chassis [IMG][IMG][IMG]

I think it's in the hands of the World Of Speed Museum here in Oregon, and they have plans for restoration. A friend of mine, Dave Inglis from bend, owned it in 1986, but never raced it. The car bounced around as a bracket car for a time. I never saw it run in the 60's, but it certainly served as a training platform for Jerry Verheul, who became one of the best Funny Car Crew Chiefs around. Stacking up plenty of victories with Jerry Ruth, and Gordy Bonin.

    Hello,

Within the next few months, the World of Speed Museum in Wilsonville, Oregon. (worldofspeed.org 27490 SW 95th Ave, Wilsonville, OR 97070) will have some unusual, original, So Cal drag racing films in their historic archives or on display. They will have the latest, newly edited version of my racing films, from 1958-60.

There will be: split race car groups (roadsters, altereds, gas coupes/sedans,) all fed racers, and a comprehensive historical time line from 1958 to 60 including all racers as it happened.

The museum accepted my donation to their historical archives for display sometime in the future. I am honored to have been selected and accepted for the historic drag racing films from So Cal: Lions, Bakersfield, and Riverside from 1958-60, plus one from 1964 and Drag Boat Racing in 1967.

    Thanks,

    Jnaki

The museum is south (just off the I-5 freeway) of our favorite northern West Coast city, Portland. We must have passed it up many times on our sojourns to the Pacific Northwest in our long car trips over the years.

"I may have posted this before, but have more of the story. This started out as one of the Jack Chrisman-driven sidewinders owned and built by Paul Nicolini. It was sold, then sold again, the second time Ronnie Hampshire and George Bolthoff bought it, replaced some of the drive train and dropped Bolthoff's blown gas Chevy in it."

    Hello,

This past Saturday and night, the new, Lions Museum was “THE” place to be for those drag racing history aficionados. But for those that could not be there, here are some shots and comment from that Lions extravaganza.

For our resident HAMB, Willys specialist, elgringo71 and Drag racer/pure hot rodder, Dean Lowe:

An early Willys sedan for the gas coupes and sedan class: The Silly Willys sedan and, one of the loudest cars I have heard in person: the reconstructed Les Ritchey A/FX Mustang. This Mustang was parked next to the Silly Willys at the Lions Museum extravaganza.

When it was time to start packing up and loading onto the trailers in the back area, the Mustang fired up to drive the short distance out of the building and into the parking/ show car/trailer area. Talk about one car that was extremely loud. Yes, it fired up inside an open warehouse and drove down the ramp, but once outside, it did not quiet down, it matched if not superseded the exhaust noise from those “cackle cars” outside.

It was an impressive race car. Definitely, ear plug material. Sorry, I did not get a “sound” film of the car in motion.

    Enjoy the research and results:

Last but not least, from the Panneton Bros. Racing in 2013: “Last March at the Hot Rod Magazine Anniversary bash at Pomona, our '56 was "pitted" next to the orange Silly Willy Sedan of Don Waldron from Rods West. We were talking about my brothers glass 41, and I mentioned how much car we got compared to what we would have for the same money on a steel car. Don said, "you know Ric, steel is cool, but the truth is, back in the day, if there would have been a glass body available, and it was allowed in our particular class, we would have had one. The fact that these cars cost an average of $575.00 new, makes it pretty hard to swallow what ones worth today. Not everyone isd an ace fabricator/welder, and not everyone has the money to pay one for the work either. I'm just happy you want a Willys, and not a fake GT40 mounted on a Volkswagon pan! Ha ha ha! Ours is an American Sports Car body. Its pretty nice, but this one is thick (1/2"+)Thick. The story is the original builder was building a 40 Ford Gasser. One day he drives his 18 wheeler by a place that has glass Willys bodies sitting outside. He stops, investigates, and buys a body, so ours is mounted on a reinforced 40 Ford frame, iron blown gas 392 Hemi, iron case Super T10, 4.10 geared 9" ford with iron center section, 20 gallon fuel tank, power windows a mild steel cage, and a bench seat. This dude weighs 3620lbs!, with my 185 lb. brother in the seat. The 392 is very mild, .030 over, stock stroke, non ported heads, an old Isky 505 flat tappet, 9.0:1 with a Dyers 671 @ 1.1 and twin 750 Holley's, and it still hauls ass! When you see it, its a 41 Willys, when drive it, its a 41 Willys, and its an absolute blast, hell come out to California and see for yourself. My only complaints.., the original builder left the engine placement a bit forward to calm the wheelies down (it didn't work), but the extra leg room is nice. We really like stock Willys dashes and the glass cars just aren't the same, and on our car the back of the hood needs to be extended back 1 1/2-2" to fit up next to the windshield properly. Other than that, we're very happy with it.”

  13. Hmmmm Some new stuff, we've had nothing but repeats for a long time.Good to see. I'll drag my lazy ass to the keyboard and post soon.
    QUESTION FOR MARTY OR WHOEVER!
The Goodell Mustang still exists ( as far as I know), who has it and why the hell doesn't Walt Austin buy it and restore it?One of my all time favorites, a REALLY COOL cat that dominated in it's day. I am guessing the Cerny paint would be insanely expensive to recreate today.
    So...??????!

Not sure when the museum first opened, but I think it's only been open about 4 years.
I live a half mile from I-5 and less than a 15 minute drive from the WOS museum and I've never been to it yet, I guess maybe I should check it out.

    Hey DDDenny,
They have my originals, but messed up the footage order and labeling. So, I am going to send them instructions and a complete set of split race car groups (roadsters, altereds, gas coupes/sedans,) all fed racers only, and a comprehensive historical time line from 1958 to 60 including all racers as it happened.

This comprehensive time line film had all racers on one film that ran all day at the recent Lions event in Long Beach. I am not sure what they have planned for my films, but it was on their site for awhile.

I will probably send that stuff later this week. You live so close, yet far away. That is like us in So Cal. We live close to several car collections and show case events, but family time usually interferes.

I was at the museum for the Grand Opening in April of 2015. I went recently to the Hall Of Fame Inductions for Northwest racers of all circuits. I also, just got my personal drag films that were taken at 4 Oregon strips during the mid 60's to 70's transferred to DVD. I too should get them categorized and give them copies as well ! Hey Marty,
That is great news about your films on DVD. That DVD format is what most places want as they can continuously run it all day. For personal files, if you can get those clips off of the DVD or from the originals into digital files, then you will have something on your own computer to play around with creating short movies or presentations.

The total amount of my old drag racing films from Lions (58-60) were on a huge file and finally got made into a DVD. We tried files on flash drives, but found out the DVD is for presentations without someone picking and choosing the actual file to show. The continuous presentation to the newly created preview showing at the Lions Dragstrip Museum in Long Beach went off without a hitch and everyone seemed to like it while they strolled around looking at the displays.

If you have an idea for an Oregon Racers display with your films running on a monitor and race cars below, present that concept to the museum and they would obviously like a local, historic presentation.

Please let me know if you need further information on how the movies were shown at the Lions presentation.

I was going threw a box of old Magazines that my brother got at one of his estate sales and run across this one...what I found really cool was what was stamped on the front and rear covers, probably Oregon hot rodders and racer's are the only one's that would appreciate this.... anyway thought it was cool...[IMG][IMG][IMG]
