28 Coupe Build

Wow nice work tucking that exhaust up in the frame! I see the dashboard waterfall from time to time on ebay but what's really hard to find is the V8 ashtray. I once looked at a car for sale at the side of the road that had 2 ! sitting loose in it I contacted the seller of the car and went back the next day but they were gone

So I've been keeping up on this estate near me and I finally got word they were cleaning out the property. I didn't want all of it but it was a all or nothing deal. So if anyone local needs a cowl/chassis let me know I'll be selling them cheap cause they are crunchy

 

Still picking away at the exhaust, just getting her welded up solid then onto brake plumbing and battery.

Honestly, you would think somebody would stamp some of these roof pieces out.
They are not that large and I am sure would be well received by hot rodders and restorers alike.

Absolutely , I've seen some really solid sport and special coupes lacking the roof for reasonable money. I would gladly have bought a new roof if one was available.

 

I would refer to those [3] panels as "lifesavers"...

 

Started on the brake lines and man if any of you guys haven't tried NiCopp line, this stuff is amazing. I did most of it just forming by hand not using a bender, I think it looks cool.

I was able to reuse these 40 tabs off that rotted frame I bought in the beginning of this project. Decided under worked better all around for how everything is set up.

Have a good portion of my gauges gathered up at this point. Looking for a early 60's tach & speedo if anyone has something they are selling. Thanks

 

Couldn't get this to load yesterday but this is the layout I'm thinking

 

Decided to just reverse this OG 32 spring to get the nose sitting better, I want it more level so once all the weight goes back on it should be close judging by what I had before.

Started off by tracing the spring.

Put lines every 2"s to keep track, worked pretty damn good.

couple local boys told of braking 6 model A main leaves trying to reverse the eyes on 2 mains for their roadsters...
they bent the eyes on each end... your method is much better... thanks...

 

Thanks for the good words, appreciate that. I like the early coupe as well, that nailhead mounted high with the scoops even with the shell/cowl just looks cool to me.

 

You mean try to roll the eye the opposite direction? Damn that must have been a bear to do.

 

Well all the exhaust except tips, brakes plumbed, all suspension/drivetrain in. So I guess at this point I'll just pile everything on the car that's been done and then make a list of stuff to finish.

 

Ended up getting a great deal on this tach, I'm looking for a matching 160mph speedometer if anyone has one to sell. Thanks, Joe

 

Absolutely bitchin build! Not sure if you ever came up with a solution for your belt line trim. My buddy's starting point was also an A Special, and he simply re-fastened it with stainless button head screws. The end result is actually pretty cool.

Thanks man, I do have the original belt line trim and at this point in thinking of using a panel bonding epoxy to attach it.

Thanks man, I bought this car 2 years ago this month and thought I'd be much further along at this point. It would be cool to drive it this year, but I want to finish paint etc cause from past history, I don't finish stuff once it drives.

 

when I bought this Bronco 9" it had a couple passes of crappy stick weld over the original weld on the rear cover. Upon grinding it down there was porosity everywhere (explains the gear oil that kept showing up). So I had to cut the thing completely off to clean it well enough to weld. Sucked.

Backing plates are less pitted then I thought after blasting quick.

Working on buttoning up the brackets to get this back together.

 

Added some back straps to the ladder bar brackets to finish it out .



Shock mounts are the front 5"s cut off a rotted 40's rear wishbone.

 

Got some Kaiser tail lights fitted up and made some tail pipes to complete the exhaust.

Fixed this old fill job on the 36 dash

Filled up & drilled out for the gauges


Picked up this cool GM tach drive generator, just need to build a different bracket to make it fit the big Buick.



Bought this 48"x36" blaster for a great price, needs some work but should greatly speed up getting stuff cleaned & ready to paint.

Going to start blowing the car apart this week and finish all the welding. Need to see some paint on this stuff soon for a motivation booster.
