    Pretty sure that's my wife's great uncle's car. Jim Morris, out of Torrence, CA. He was known for keeping things very stock-appearing, while making the things quick. If so, I guarantee there's a serious nailhead under the hood. The HRM folks down there knew him.

    I remember the car and owner pretty well, from Lions, but cannot remember the name. Blown Buick nailhead under the bonnet.

    Lifted from Cartech Books. I've wondered about clutch explosions and when shields started coming into play.

    With experimental engine and transmission combinations, parts failures were quite common during the first few decades of drag racing. This 1957 Chevy at Oswego Dragway experienced a major clutch explosion, which left it with a broken windshield and a mangled cowl and dash. These accidents were terribly dangerous for the drivers, but also put the spectators and track crew at risk. (Photo Courtesy Brent Fregin)
