Geez, what a barge! Green always seems to be a controversial color but it sure works well on this. You got one "Swank Tank" there!
I hunted forever to find a radio to fill the cavity left by a vulchar so I'll keep the dash stock. I need to freshen up the dash pad. Tunes may be from something hidden or just the exhaust.
Thank you. It just looks right to me without going over the top. The green is a 73 Elkhart green with peal and the white is a Toyota white metalic with pearl. A few simple lines to come.
That's the next thing on the do list is to fill those with some 2 in exhaust and tips. Then sitting about 3 inches lower (old school, not bags ) she'll be looking mighty sweet.
Joe, it's like driving a 22 foot couch with pick me up and its a gas. It does turn heads more than any of the endless cars I've had before.
The seats were toast so some new foam, batting and for now a more acceptable interior. Dreams of a tuck and roll interior will alude me for a couple years.
The devils in the details so the motor is getting nothing more than a clean up. No rattle can rebuild for this one. She can look unmolested with a hint of grime and I'm content. I have some weathered chrome valve covers that may or may not go on, we'll see.
The next project is lowering it. I'm going to install 69 Firebird (400 hp) springs up front and 3 inch lowering blocks out back. No bags. Then its save up for the dual exhaust.
To hot to work in the shop today so pulled her out for a few more pictures. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/...073741926.100002903687344&type=1&l=2d8424f27b
Awesome. The wheels are great. Don't know how I missed this. Love the bubbletops. (let's don't have the 62 Chevy conversation).
I spent a couple days under her this week. Changed the tranny fluid and screen. I used royal purple and it's like butter. Smooth shifts, much better. A small fuel leak fixed with some fresh line and the biggie..... new springs up front and lowering blocks. I switched out the springs to 69 firebird 400 spings. Lovet the ride and the height? What ya'll think?
Man I tell ya. I ran some sea foam tranny treatment for about 20 miles, drained and change to royal purple tranny fluid and it's like driving a newcar. Smooth like butter, no hard knock down shifting. I'm sold on royal purple. It's not cheap but incredible.
Good job!! Factory linkage adjustments are critical I read years ago in Hemmings road testing an all original '59 88, that it used whale oil don the factory
I pulled out my trusty shop manual and it looked untouched so I didn't mess with it. Interesting you mention whale oil. I know a fellow that has a bone stock and original 63 chev wagon and the rear end is lubed with whale oil from the factory.
A small addition that really brightened up the front end *(and a lot cheaper than replating that bumper).. eyelids.
Did you ever find the radio you needed? I know a yard about 20 miles away that has a 1960 and a 1959 Olds.
love this car....I have a 62 super 88..........my take, but it's your car do it how you want......lower it [if you want to go cheap, cut coils]...then get ASTRO'S with thin whitewalls and drive the shit out of it.......rock the patina....remember "clean" always looks good.....wish I knew how to post pics. on here I would show you how mine looks.......GOOD LUCK !!!
