Pan Pacific Auditorium Los Angeles
For over 35 years it was the premier location for indoor public events in Los Angeles. It was located near the old Gilmore field, baseball stadium.

This fabulous architecture was the home for many early auto shows. My dad was a fanatic when it came to seeing the latest cars from the factories. We went to many shows here at the Pan Pacific Auditorium.

In the later years, the auto shows moved to other places, like the LA Sports Arena, the Great Western Exhibit Center, and the Long Beach Municipal Auditorium. But this version of the old Art Deco style stood its ground in the early years in West Los Angeles.

Sometimes, my dad would take us to the nearby Gilmore Field to watch the LA Stars play. Being a baseball fanatic and former player, he was big on the local teams. The big name first baseman was Chuck Connors, who turned into the famed “Rifleman” TV series star.

 

Actually, the local baseball team that played at Gilmore Field was called the Hollywood Stars, not the L.A. Stars. Okay, a test for other old timers (like me) from Los Angeles. Who can remember joining the Fred Haney Knot-Hole Club as a kid?

We were little, lived in Long Beach about 25 miles south, LA was a big place and the field was in Los Angeles. So, as little kids, we called it LA Stars. Chuck Connors was a star for us and nothing could get by that big 1st baseman. Yes, it is listed as Hollywood, but for us baseball fans in Long Beach, it was LA Stars. TEHO
