"What did that start out as?"
"American Bantam pickup"

"Never heard of it"
"Google it"
"Weirdo"

 

It's not a cruise night but at least once a month someone walks into my shop sees my Vicky and wants to "know more about my roadster. "

I say well let's start at the basics then,,,,

 

I wasn't at a cruise night but at the NSRA show in Pueblo Colorado. My dad had his original 30 Model A sport coupe there. Some guy came up opened the hood and started trashing it saying that our exhaust manifold was a accessory. Not knowing what he was talking about we weren't very happy with the guy and he left. I can't believe the nerve some people have.

A guy asked me to start the engine so he could hear how a flathead sounded with a 4bbl carburetor.

 

Was near the Iowa-Minnesota border loading ice into a cooler in the back seat of our 37 Buick when a couple, seeing the Texas plates, asked if we had driven it all the way from Texas. I told them we had it shipped Fed Ex and when done cruising the area we would ship it back. The wife told her husband, "see I told you it was too old to drive".

2 young kids pull up next to my coupe at the downtown bagel shop. Kid one looks at my car and says to kid two..."Did you see this jalopy?"
Kid two replies "I think that's called a fliver."

I do not go to a lot of cruises but I have heard alot said about my coupe. What dirt track do you race it at? Love that one. What kind of fuel mileage does it get? I tell them zero miles to the gallon. Is it a kit car? Is the blower real? My boost gauge says it is! Did you drive that here? No I pushed it! And the one I still can not get over, Is this a car or a truck? REALLY!

 

is that a small block chevy?
how do you get a chevy motor to fit a ford?
are you going to paint it? (real ? is am I going to wash it)
I know where one just like that is but its a Dodge.
why does it sit so low?
it cost how much to paint a car!!!!!!!!!

I like the fuel mileage question. Like I even remotely give a care what it gets.

The price of petrol went up here and I was filling up my Caddy when a TV reporter was at the gas station doing a story on the price rise, and interviewing customers. She was walking over to me, mike in hand, when I just looked at her with the "Do you think if I gave a Rat's arse about the price of petrol I would be driving this behemoth?" look. I think she got the message, shook her head, and then interviewed the bloke in the Toyota next to me.

 

I think I've lost count of how many times some knucklehead asks me if I own my fathers convertible

I get asked what kind of mileage I get almost everywhere I go. I think it's kind of funny, so I just make up a number...

I was asked yesterday if my flathead was a 2 stroke engine. That's definitely a new one.

 

"How fast will it go?" (In fairness, the question may arise from the magnetic placard on the dash that advises, "CAUTION: Do not lower windows at speeds in excess of 120 mph.")

 

Who needs validation from others?aka cruise nights

Had a guy tell me my Stude was a nice Camaro. To be fair it is nosed and decked

That is correct. Far from stock, close to super stock. MP was the next step.
