    Howdy guys!

So I got a bone stock 200 L6 in my 65' Ranchero and I'm looking to get a little more push from it. Now I'm running a Holley 1904 off of a 52' F1 which I think makes it run a little rich but it works. I recently bought a Weber 32/36 DGEV and plan on getting the adapter from the Ford Six folks and fabing my own linkage. Any ideas what jet sizes work best?

Its currently got what the picture shows. I'm thinking that's a little much so any ideas before I gotta start buying random smaller jets? Screenshot_2017-07-30-00-06-34.png

I just re jetted same carb on a model a. I contacted Top End performance, racetep.com, and they supplied me with a jet kit $90.00 and where to start with jets I had in carb. Hit it the first try. One thing about tuning carb is you really need exhaust gas analyzer to do it right. Call them, they were very helpful.

Ok cool. I actually heard reading the plugs is also a good way to do it. What kind of engine is in the Model A?

Well... It gives you some information about how much fuel the engine gets, under some conditions. A wide band lambda can tell you how rich or lean your engine is running in real time, from idling in the garage to full throttle howling down the freeway. You can get a carburettor adjusted pretty well without any fancy gadgets, but the gadgets helps you do it better and in a fraction of the time.

    Not with today's fuels.

I have had engines with clean plugs that were ~12% off on fuel delivery.

If you have not already thrown the original distributor in the dumpster, you need to do that now.

Not only is it incompatible with the Weber, but it sucked, even when it was brand new.

Yeah I have a new HEI one. It works great! I had to do that to run it with the Holley 1904.

What can you tell me what to do other than the distributor? I think the current jets are a little big and I'm not sure where to start.

Being on the wrong side of the Atlantic, I'm guessing I'm not the best person to find a price on the ones available to you. They are indeed expensive, but worth it.

Man that'd be perfect!!! What are they?
It's a stock motor with the HEI distributor and iridium plugs. I got a mechanical pump but I think I gotta put an electric pump for the Weber.

That is a problem. Haha. The problem is I'm in college and don't really have money for gadgets.
That is something I'll look into in the future though.

No you don't, and you want a regulator set at 2psi.

Check the current/correctors jets that are in it, first. You might have some combination of the correct parts already.

Weber made an absurd number of variants of the 32/36 (and even licensed one to Holley for the 5200). Some are even mirror images of each other, but they all have the same basic jet/corrector layout. Big bore is always the secondary:

Pull out the idle jet holder:

And examine the idle jet, before ordering more. There are TWO different types (no idea why):

You can get individuals at: https://www.pegasusautoracing.com/images/L/74822.JPG

Or you can buy a tuning kit.

I would bet around 160-170 on the mains I've done a few conversions on Jeep inline 6s and usually end up with 170-180 on those. I have a honda 1.5 that I converted that runs 140s

Plugs are your best no cost reading

  20. Exactly ^^ with todays fuel you do it by feel and not worry about exact numbers or you get a pyrometer.

Unless you are running pure gasoline plug readings have become a by guess and by golly.

Except that with today's fuels, that won't even get you close.

The numbers that I gave him are not a guess, or from a plug read.

They are from a Ford Falcon 200, in a Falcon, with the exact same carburetor and distributor, as verified by a wide-band Oxygen sensor.

That's a perty close guess off the top of your head. That is pretty neat though that gimpyshotrods had done the exact thing with the same engine and all using the fancy gadget. I can't wait to start in on it. I'm actually waiting on the carb from eBay but once I get it I'll start in on it.

That's sick man! That really helps me. I'm wondering why this isn't something easily found info. I kinda want to do a YouTube thing or something on this so others can use it.

Hey, so I got the Weber today and I'm gonna start tearing into it here soon and I was wondering what the best timing is? It's a manual and the standard is 6° BTDC, for the Weber is there a better degree?

    Thanks!

I went all the way to 10º. It didn't ping, so I left it there.

If I've got it, all y'all get it.

    Knowledge should be free.
