these are KIDNEY BELTS...........truck drivers used to wear them too....before Bostrom air ride seats......the jolting and jarring of a rigid Harley or heavy duty truck suspension would lead to a condition known then as "floating kidney"..or so I heard........and they're just plain neato-riffic!!!!

    Hey Gary,
Lloyd Thaxton had a TV show that was popular in So Cal in 1961. He was a "silver tongue ad man" that had some great backing, but lacked in the research department. He could impress anyone until "local surf/hot rod" slang terms were brought onto the show by accident. It was funny, but the writers and program people were clueless. They hopped on any bandwagon they could, so it brought in more viewers during that time period.

We all watched that Thaxton show because he was the next generation of the Dick Clark, American Bandstand. Since we all watched that show from the beginning, AB was fast becoming passe. This was local and something new.

internet excerpt: The show was almost totally unscripted and spontaneous. Thaxton's description of the idea: “No one told me what I had to do. I was producing it myself. I was writing it myself.”

It started on the west coast first, then went nationwide. He became famous without doing much of anything relevant. But, yes, we did watch it. Hey, we were clueless teenagers then with nothing much else to worry about.

    Hello,

My friend from high school brought his Bivens and Fisher FED to the Lions Dragstrip Museum Cacklefest. The car has been thoroughly upgraded to today’s standards and looks pretty fabulous. It sounds just as strong, too.
