Congratulations on finding a great truck. After all the hard work on your coupe the work on the truck will be a lot kinder.

  2. Good luck! Whatever you do or don't do it's a nice truck, enjoy!

I did some things that I think are necessary to drive the truck. I had to see how badly the cowl vent channel is rusted and how much of the operator was there. the short answer is the seal channel is better than my coupe and there is no operator. I ordered the rear window seal; the glass is usable.

I have a better one to replace this.

I need to see pictures of what this is supposed to look like. Seeing the handle and mechanism would be great.

If you recognize this or want it, just pay shipping. Be advised; I think mice have been peeing in the top of it. It would be nice to know because the steering wheel could have come from the same car.

Thanks to everyone for the encouraging comments. A little time on the truck can produce big results versus many hours on the coupe with little change. I'm waiting on window regulators and the glass seal, so I'll be on the coupe for the next few days.

I want it because merc went to a 4 bolt carb base and u can adapt Rochester 2bbl carbs to it. V8 Bob can provide more details.

My comment " a little time on the truck can produce big results" turned out to be wishful thinking.
The had a strange drag link on it and it was rubbing against the front of the oil pan on a left turn. I have a spare stock drag link and installed it. The drag link still hit the pan, so I reversed the offset in the pitman arm to add clearance to the pan. I need to change a connector and I'll have stop lights.

    Hope this works

Here's the final version of the pitman arm. It goes lock to lock and no interference. IMG_0596.JPG
had to take some bend out.

Nice find! I like 40/1 Trucks. Here are few from my blog. They are extremely popular in our area and very pricey for a real nice one.

    Thanks, I am.

A little more work and it will be drivable... on the streets.

The last FH I drove was in my coupe, but they haven't changed much. This one runs good.

I know you have your hands full, but they are getting hard to find AND expensive.

I changed oil and put anti freeze in the truck yesterday; otherwise I've been working on the coupe. I've ordered some parts to get lights in the truck and it will take a few days to get them, so I'll be sanding and priming.

Today was cooler, so I took the opportunity to clean up/ preserve the cowl vent area and the rear window area. I blasted and painted both places and I'm going to use some spray can touch up to blend it in... sort of. It's off the shelf Rustoleum .

After priming, I noticed a tiny hole in the cowl channel that I'll have to weld. The inside framework for the rear window also had some small holes and pits. At least I can be sure these won't get any worse in the next couple of years while I'm using the truck.

Very cool truck! I like the blue paint and that giant chrome waterfall hood emblem/molding.
Looks like the wheel and the radio are '49 Lincoln Cosmopolitan. Obscure = uber-kuhl!

Thanks for the pic. What do think are the chances of finding a horn ring and button for mine?

Love that first gray truck. I'll see if I can get a picture of the cowl vent mechanism.

That would be a big help. I have an extra car mechcanism that I thought might be modified to work in the truck.

  28. Also, you can run the 2G on the stock 3 bolt intake. Get the offy 3 bolt to 4 bolt adapter and run the 2G backwards, I did it for a few years on my '47, ran great and everything (fuel line and linkage) hooked up like it was meant to be there. it's either the 5159 or 3860.

  29. Congrats on the truck also, you lucked out and it has the intact hood release handle, mustache pieces and grille.
