You gotta lose the yoyo on the rear bumper. I think these cars look great with a simple lowering. Not much else is needed. My 55 below. Owned since 1992. Some day it will get freshened up with a repaint, 2 toned with 55 Oldsmobile Anniversary Gold and Black.
To me, nothing is sexier than a 56 Victoria roof line. One of these days I'll have one real similar to 50fraud 's car. Pretty close to perfection. Sent from my iPad using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Aerostar front springs and wore out original springs in the rear. There is most likely a full trunk too, I think we were headed out of town for a show. I would like it to be 2" lower. Dropped spindles is the right way to do the front.
Here's my 55'. Has 2" drop spacers in the rear. Wish I went with the 4's but I was worried about changing tires... now I don't care and wish I did it. My Aerostar coils should be showing up in the mail tomorrow as well as the A-arm spacer kit from Butch. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Will do man, appreciate it. I'm curious about butchs kit too. I probably won't have time to do it until Wednesday morning but I'll definitely post some pics. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Its 4 pieces of 1 inch square stock (2 per side) and bolts. They go between the lower A arm and the spring plate. You drill out the rivets, then bolt these in between to lower the bottom of the spring. Pretty easy to do with a decent amount of drop. Drilling the rivets can be a pain! http://www.butchscoolstuff.com/49-56-ford-mercury-many-others-bolt-in-front-lowering-kits-2400/
Correct. Essentially just drops spring location lower. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Mine bottomed out constantly with just 1/2" spacers and stock springs. I swapped to the Aerostars, pulled the spacers, and cut the snubbers in half. They bottom out fairly regularly, so I would say yes.
Does anyone have pictures of using the 60 dodge Seneca bezels? This does look like it could be a neat period custom trick.
I always dug the way the '61 Dodge Polara tailights fit the quarters on Terry Thorpe's '56. (Photos from Terry Thorp, via Rik Hoving's Archives) The truly amazing thing is, this car was created from an earlier version, changing virtually everything on an already stunning custom!
Although it is a hardtop unlike the OP's for me the best example is the Gary Howard built Jimmy Vaughn 1955. Hard to beat the clean lines on this car.
Just bumping this back to the top. If I can ever get the Okie Apache out of my shop, I will start back on the 55.
That's a '56 Customline hardtop, which are relatively scarce. At least where I lived in SoCal, there were many more Fairlane hardtops. The obvious difference is the side trim, but there are other differences such as the roof trim above the rain gutters. They didn't make a Customline hardtop in '55,
