The Zonks were the early house/promotional band for the Dairy Queen fast food chain.

There have been some interesting pictures popping up lately, of body drops at GM assembly plants. The fleet orders, like this Civil Defence panel - also a production milestone - pique my interest, especially. I'd really like to see some of the Army, Navy and USAF orders that they built.

Reminds me of one my younger brother made. He had 3 1/2 to 4 foot extensions on the forks. As I recall, he had the sense to bolt them on, not just slip them on. Surprisingly, it made the bike easier to pedal.

We would always hammer ours on...of course, they wouldn't fall off, until you tried to "pop a wheelie" to impress your friends.

Made for some spectacular...and painful...wipe-outs, lol.

"Save at Spag's because you get no bags" was how I remember the jingle. You could buy anything there as long as you paid in $$$$$ like cash. Had the pleasure of shopping there thirty plus years ago. Another great family business until the founder died. After the family sold out the purchasers closed it down after a few years. The local businesss around Spag's lost so much traffic that they too closed. A 250 unit apartment, shopping, office complex is being built now on the closed business's on Rt. 9, Shrewsbury,Mass. Ahh Progress?

  18. It's still my favorite steak place. Prime rib, baker, onion rings, steamed veg and a big ol' gin and tonic.

It may have been ugly but it ran pretty good. Driver Bob Mathouser got in a couple of qualifying laps on the 4th Day of Time Trials that would have made the 500 before breaking the crank. Because of those official timed laps Mathouser and Thompson's car still holds the single lap record for a front wheel drive car to this day. The four lap record goes back to Chet Miller in one of the front drive Novis.
