Looking for ideas from those of you not running factory front and rear bumpers on your 20's, 30's, and 40's cars.

Be patient, it's Sunday morning, I'm sure everyone is still at church... Or sleeping off Saturday night. Either way, remember the words of Kevin Costner and that chubby North Korean guy, "if you build it, they will come".

I found these polished, aluminum pipe mounts from a dune buggy parts vendor. They have two threaded holes in the back, a design milled into the sides, and were a great way to mount some polished 1.75 OD. stainless tubing from Speedway (covered in tape for now to protect it)! I will be mounting a plate and tag light to the middle. A rear bumper with unique mounts. 20170820_150913.jpg

I hate Billet too, but they were so cool, and solved a mount problem, that I will have just this one thing on it! I hope the purists can forgive me.....sigh. Lol.

My bumpers aren't as nice as many that were shown, I started this 38 back in the 70's and originally had a 60 ?? or so Corvair bumper on the front, it was functional but I never really liked it. The 38 was parked from the late 80's to just a few years ago. Sometime during the 80's I parted out a 47 or 48 Chevy and kept both the front and rear bumpers as well as the grille guard. This is the way the front will stay. In the rear I used a trailer house axle, capped the ends and made a mini gasser rear bumper when I built the car in the 70's. I've had compliments on both (maybe the folks that didn't like it just didn't want to hurt my feelings:) IMG_0881.JPG IMG_1103.JPG

I just got done boxing the front frame rails on my 34 around the stainless spreader bar. Welded nuts on the inside of the bar for easy installation and removal. Small change but looks cleaner. The tab holds my fog light. Still have some welding left on the front end but ill finish it after I pull the body and grille back off. Paint coming in a couple of weeks on the body, frame to follow. Exciting.

Rear spreader with nerf bars on the ends, license plate brackets are aluminum front bar mounts that I milled open to fit the rear bar diameter. My exhaust pipes slide out right alongside the nerfs. I moved my tail lights from being mounted to the ends of the nerf bar to being mounted under the car body and crafter a set of ribbed aluminum caps for the ends.

Spreader bar made from the remnants of Ford wishbones, hence the tapered / oval shape, drilled and tapped on the underside to hold fog lamp and tag topper

Home made front and rear bars for my '34. DOM tubing drops from the local steel supplier, painted to match the chassis (now). I made a pattern for the V front bar from PVC before cutting the pieces for the front. IMG_2874.JPG IMG_3152.JPG

  29. The one for my roadster is meant to emulate the look of the dropped and drilled axle. Also, it's a place to hang the mandatory front license plate (Doh!).

  30. 3" pipe with end caps welded on. Brackets are 1/4" plate.
    Inspired by Gassers' pipe bumpers.
