    Al Dean originally owned this Lister Chevy but sold it to Harlan Fike. Wayne Weiler is the driver in the photo. Apparently, after little success and a crash the remains of this car ended up as the Sorrel/Larkin Special which was another of the very interesting one-off sports cars that ran in the 1950s and early 1960s.

    The Burger Bar was on the Southwest Corner of Citrus and Redlands Blvd. (Hiway 99) Redlands CA. A Del Taco is on that spot today.

  9. Thank you for posting. This is a special pic as it shows some type of Pontiac head not known of in the early 60s. It was not until late 1968 that Pontiac built a round port head without siamesed exh ports. This car has them a half dozen or so years prior. Have not found anyone with an explaination. Sadly, most of the people who would know have passed.

  13. are you sure the Connie pic is 1964? Based on the Ford engine and zoomies, it is likely 1965 or, could be very late in '64. He won Inday in '64 with a 392 and got the Ford contract for the switch to the cammer in '65.

Agreed styling wise but, also Pontiacs had larger brakes, stronger rear ends, avail 4spd hydro trans, an extra 50 or hundred inches under the hood ( 389 ), etc. Most things that Pontiac didn't do was because they were not allowed to do. Many ideas had to be snuck out the back down because they were not allowed to do ( GTO is an example ). It was probably GM brass that banned the Poncho Catalina pick up (as shown).
